Mew Zakuro (Mew Renée)

Zakuro Fuijwara (藤原ざくろ, Fujiwara Zakuro) is a fictional character in the anime and manga series Tokyo Mew Mew. In Mew Mew Power, she is known as Renée Roberts.

History

Manga

Zakuro is first seen at the museum, where she stops some girls from bullying Lettuce. Later, the girls go to a model shoot to find out if she's a Mew Mew--and she is. She transforms and fights off the crow Chimera Animal that attacks the studio, and then walks off, saying she works alone and won't join the team. This doesn't deter the girls, as they follow her to a show where she's appearing as a guest, and they fight off the Chimera Animal. Zakuro says she'll make an exception for the Mew Mews, and joins the group.

Tokyo Mew Mew A La Mode- Zakuro and the others(Ichigo,Mint,Lettuce,and Pudding)meet Berry Shirayuki the newest Mew. But soon they face a new challenge called "The Saint Rose Crusaiers".

Anime

Zakuro's anime introduction episode is a two parter. The girls go to a model shoot to find out if Zakuro's a Mew Mew. Pudding interrupts by performing tricks and the agent-who speaks English-gets angry. Zakuro walks in and talks to the agent (in English; in the English and Spanish dubs, she speaks in French) and the girls watch and admire her.

Mint runs over and asks if Zakuro has noticed anything strange happening lately. Zakuro walks off. The girls follow her to a church later that night and Kish attacks with a crow Chimera Animal. She drives them off and Mint calls her the fifth member of the team. Zakuro pushes Mint away and leaves.

In the next episode, the girls go to try and convince Zakuro to join the team, but Kish comes in and traps them in a sandstorm that leads to another dimension. He says he won't bring them back unless Ichigo and Zakuro fight each other, and the winner has to work with him. He leaves and Ichigo retreats to the cafe. She later goes back to talk to Zakuro, but Zakuro refuses to work with the people that changed her body. Ichigo tells Zakuro that all she wants to do is save her friends, but Zakuro has to go do her TV show.

While the show is airing, one of the workers is attacked by Kish and her soul is used for a cobra-like Chimera Animal. Ichigo tries to fight but is slammed into a wall and constricted by the Chimera Animal. Ichigo tells Zakuro to run because she's a friend. She tries to attack Kish but her powers don't seem to work. Zakuro transforms and appears in the other dimension and uses her whip to get the girls back to the real world (like "ripping" through the dimension) . After they get back, the weapons resonate and Ichigo defeats the Chimera Animal. Zakuro says she doesn't like friends, but will consider it this time, and joins the group.

Personality

Zakuro is a beautiful model who can seem cruel and cold on the outside, but is helpful and intelligent when she feels she needs to be. At Cafe Mew Mew, Zakuro is cold and antisocial to the customers. She is very shrewd and insightful. She is curious about the aliens reason for coming here and of how they really feel. She is always willing to test the virtues and commitment of the other Mews, whether they believe it to be cruel or not. She is also a very quiet girl, like Lettuce.

Her DNA is infused with the Gray Wolf. When she transforms she develops lavender wolf ears and a wolf tail. She is the 5th and last member of the team to join. Her emotion-fueled power is unknown, but it can be assumed that it is fire because there are flames in her transformation.

Attack: Ribbon Zakuro, Spear! (Can also be translated as "Ribbon Zakuross Pure" and variations of that)

The pun of her weapon in the Japanese version is quite vague; it comes out to something like a cross between "zakuro" and "cross" (クロス kurosu), making it the "Zakurosu-uippu (ザクロスウイップ)" which roughly translates to "Zacross Whip" (Zakuro Cross Whip). This can also be taken to mean "Zakuro's Whip" (see above attack name dispute).

In the Japanese anime, her seiyū is Noda Junko.
