:All four genres are currently sourced in the musical style section and they all seem fairly accurate. Pop punk seems like a stretch to me, but it's actually very easy to come by sources referring to them as it, so unless a consensus is reached against it here then I don't see it going any time soon. The early label is in reference their time as Pezz. While, Pezz's only album is definitely ska punk, I can't seem to find any source that calls it such and also the EP prior to it sounds more like funk rock to me, however again there's no source calling it so. Because of this, I'm not sure either should be included unless one can be found. [[User:Issan Sumisu|Issan Sumisu]] ([[User talk:Issan Sumisu|talk]]) 19:11, 5 December 2019 (UTC)

Canadian punk rock band is the most accurate short description (and basic genre)

This might be a moot point, but since the band's genre was debated in the past, it might be prudent to confirm (or reach) a consensus.

In particular, if one wants to provide a pithy description of Billy Talent, including the most representative genre for their music, what would you say? I wasn't sure myself until I read several relevant articles on Wikipedia, and did a little searching through major music magazines. I concluded that the current short description, Canadian punk rock band, is spot on. Here a few sources to support my claim:

(I'll add to this list later—I ran out of time today.)

Please note that my focus is on the short description and the band's most pertinent genre, i.e., the most succinct, accurate description for Billy Talent, which includes the one genre that best categorizes the band's music. We could also discuss (as has been done in the past) which genres should be listed in the Infobox, but please start another section if you wish to discuss/debate that topic. (Thank you.) (I started a new section about the Infobox genres.)

More descriptions of the band from the music media are below. I underlined the words describing the band.

Which genres should be listed in the Infobox?

Five rock music genres are currently listed in the Infobox: Punk rock, alternative rock, post-hardcore, pop punk, ska punk (early). Is this list accurate?

I propose that we retain (or add) genres that have reliable sources, i.e., the band has been described using the genre or a similar term in a reputable music magazine (print or online) or book. I suggest that this proposal serve as a guideline—it is not cast in stone.

Punk rock and alternative rock have been used by reliable sources (see section above for examples). Post-hardcore seems accurate to me, but I haven't seen sources using that term to describe Billy Talent. Pop punk does not seem accurate at all (IMHO). I don't know enough about ska punk to have an opinion.
