YouTube importance=low + class=C

FYI: Content assessment, challenging importance=low for YouTube here. Maybe I'll try the suggested BOLD fix later. –84.46.53.16 (talk) 06:10, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Implemented as class=B + importance=mid, maybe all those SitC + VidCon + YouTube Rewind appearances aren't good enough for an importance=high.YouTube Rewind: The Truth (Why I'm saying NO next year) on YouTube84.46.53.230 (talk) 11:15, 13 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
After working on this page for two months I now think that it could pass a {{GAN}} review. Somebody will upload more #Photos soon, i.e., I'll reactivate my account for this business in March for a day if nobody else volunteers to upload one CC-BY video + 19 photos taken from this video. –84.46.52.182 (talk) 13:09, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The problem isn't the silly photo, it's the missing review summary for Villains (the album, for the tour it's fixed), the missing review summary for the book (one unreliable source killed), and the missing I have been blind  quote from Third Eye  for up to 509 84.46.5[23].* IPv4s. @A21sauce: Thanks, in the lede I removed the unclear "From Basildon, Essex" blurb, she also published her music + videos from Brighton later, and the references are for the complete first statement (Twitter for Louise, etc.) Basildon is anyway covered in "#Personal life", I now added it to "(born 11 November 1991 in Basildon)". –84.46.53.127 (talk) 07:26, 10 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Personal life

@C.Fred: That's a good section for some facts still missing here such as her activism against "self harm". But this is a BLP, and I could add more than one self-published video, where she stated that she shared too much of her personal life.
The CFS fact is the proverbial tip of the iceberg, there are also self-published videos about other health issues (plural), about the locations + meanings + timestamps of tattoos, and about lots of other personal facts on and on repeating right down to cup sizes, where I think that enwiki could wait for reliable+relevant 3rd party sources instead of self-published videos or CelebMix stories.
Presumably folks with similar issues will be delighted if they find somebody talking publicly about it, so this should be still good (for them). OTOH somewhere is a line where "good for them" and "bad for her" could get into a violent conflict, and a BLP isn't the place to fight it out. –84.46.53.242 (talk) 17:05, 22 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It would be better if the illness were discussed in independent sources, even if the info came from interviews with her. My concern was getting the information into a format that was more fitting for an article after the 91.1.* IP added it; discussion could then follow on whether it warranted inclusion. —C.Fred (talk) 02:49, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
^.^b84.46.52.251 (talk) 04:04, 26 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Related, Feel Good 101: The Outsiders' Guide to a Happier Life exists now and ends up on #Book here. Expanding that section could cover other issues, she didn't pull the video series out of thin air. The book in Category:Books about mental health is based on the series. –84.46.52.2 (talk) 22:18, 11 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Presumably some folks interested in this BLP wonder why deleting an Instagram account and a Twitter account with 750K followers is not yet noted here.[1] The reddit statement is a primary reference, arguably unsuited here until some WP:42 source confirms the fact without discussing the "unencylopedic" five years old YouTube drama related to this reaction now. I've seen about ten comments on an obscure forum, and that's definitely off topic here; maybe one comment telling her that she shouldn't read this, let alone edit there, nailed it, but of course random forums (with few exceptions) are totally unsuited on enwiki. –84.46.53.245 (talk) 19:22, 4 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The problem with Wikipedia is that, besides being open to anyone, it encourages fans to write paratext.[1] That perverse incentive results in sub-optimal policy-violating content. My recommendation is to stick to what The Guardian publishes. If Emma were that important, real journalists (rather than Redditors) would have written about her. Fun fact, there are actually two references of The Guardian on the page. I've invited Alicedeve to the discussion here. From my Pov five CelebMix references at the moment are on the border of too much, and two WeTheUnicorns aren't better. She's now musician before vlogger, further self-published videos must be really essential as references. For the one in #Book I could explain the rationale, but I've actually already done this between the first 32B or 34D lines of this section. –84.46.52.233 (talk) 20:12, 25 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sanity check, there are 9…12 uses of journal.transformativeworks.org on enwiki, the article doesn't mention WP:42, WP:BLP, or any other enwiki rule, the journal isn't listed on WP:RS/P, it's not known in the WP:RS/Noticeboard archives, also not as TWC, and the TWC page doesn't have Transformative Works and Culture. The article doesn't mention Wikia a.k.a. FANDOM, this is a rather dubious essay, speaking as "phan" of Blackery or fan of Sasha Grey, Madonna, Suzi Quatro, etc.84.46.52.233 (talk) 21:08, 25 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • MY 2c - Given Emma's known to start and stop Youtube channels and given the fact she can easily delete the videos I would personally like to see these backed up by other sources, If an excerpt from the book could be provided with the book that says both claims then I would be happy for her book to be used as a citation,
Not saying she's lying not at all but as far as I know for medical claims there needs to be actual substantial evidence and I would consider excerpts to be substantial evidence as opposed to just the book itself if that makes sense. –Davey2010Talk 21:27, 25 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Just for clarity when I say excerpts I mean something like this or like this. –Davey2010Talk 21:31, 25 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I never understood those horrible books.google URLs, but "no preview" for [2] is a dead-end at the moment. The #Book section is okay as is, "anxiety and depression" is even listed on the books.google abstract, and "self harm" was something she observed (trying to avoid the word "only" in this context.) –84.46.52.197 (talk) 12:05, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Davey2010 and C.Fred: Checking all references I just found that the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome video is unlisted, and she said at the start: "I usually try and keep this sort of stuff real private". Missing info

There should be something about tattoos, hamsters, Zelda, WWE, The Sims, Lush, Reddit, … (skipping the fisting list, etc.) Her half-siblings are also AWOL, ditto Leia. Please suggest good sources, but not yet another self-published video, I'd know where to find that:[3]84.46.52.217 (talk) 03:41, 30 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

For the ASA×Oreo issue in 2014 I'm lost, is this relevant? The Guardian reported it, mentioning Blackery in passing.[5] IIRC she mentioned it in a video. Her former #FartOfNoise in Catch you later… 💩 could be more interesting for some phans. –84.46.52.197 (talk) 01:49, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There are no Feel good 101 reviews in reliable sources. Two here unusable candidates are [6] (podcast with Emma Gunn × Emma Blackery) and [7] (april is the cruellest month, blog). Two usual suspects TenEighty and WeTheUnicorns are based on the announcement, no reviews at all. –84.46.52.195 (talk) 19:55, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Zelda added: The podcast covers tattoos, but an attempt in that direction was so un-encyclopedic that I killed it after a preview. I don't recall if that podcast directly covers Triforce as an example, but after all it's visible on many of her videos (incl. one now lost mirrored Twitter video with the Triforce on the wrong side.) The Sims are covered as one of her most viewed videos, I'm not really interested in Lush, the hamsters belong to the "skip the tattoos trivia" (after Zelda), and Leia is a pet/cat, unsuited for this BLP until The Guardian decides otherwise. –84.46.53.186 (talk) 23:33, 5 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, the Triforce is also visible on several c:category:Emma Blackery photos, no video required, and explaining what it is in #Personal life should be okay. –84.46.52.28 (talk) 04:20, 7 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Self-proclaimed Slytherin could be funinteresting, but not at the price of another self-published video in this BLP. –84.46.52.28 (talk) 13:43, 7 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I've added Liberty in North Korea 2015 instead of North Korea, because one source not belonging to the usual suspects ("official phanzine" TenEighty, "140 billion" WeTheUnicorns, CelebMix) would be this. I like it, but it's not my bold day. –84.46.52.219 (talk) 04:15, 11 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
More missing info could be Draft:Daniel Hardcastle in #See also iff promoted to a proper article (almost hopeless), and SEEVIC found on an external source (not used anywhere on enwiki, presumably no RS, but lists two former channels and other details I didn't know). Maybe useful for a dewiki translation / another complete list of all Villains Tour locations:[8]84.46.52.203 (talk) 08:49, 27 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The Verge featured a "YouTube Rewind Hates Its Creators" video by ImAllexx,[9] who featured Blackery's YouTube Rewind video among others.[10] Should this article be added to Blackery's YouTube Rewind video, although she isn't mentioned by name, but visible in the thumbnail? –84.46.53.51 (talk) 04:54, 3 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The charity work is still incomplete, e.g., the shaving my head video (2014), and the cringmas with Revelmode collected 1.3M USD for Product Red (2016). –84.46.53.96 (talk) 01:31, 8 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The Recording 'Wolves' on YouTube announced for 2020 should be a clear case of WP:CRYSTAL in 2019, but YMMV. –84.46.53.138 (talk) 22:02, 20 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently she did not kill SitC in 2019, I almost did declaring the event as "defunct" some weeks ago: Reverted to "active" today, because Blackery was a featured guest on the first "Social in the City: winter edition" at National Exhibition Centre. For the event I refused to add yet another TenEigthy reference, for this BLP we have enough Guardian to justify a fresh TenEighty for December 2019. –84.46.52.84 (talk) 03:50, 25 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Villains

After checking Villains (album), Villains (Emma Blackery album) is a nice red link. I tend to unlink red links with only one incoming link as on Special:WhatLinksHere/Villains (Emma Blackery album), but for this convoluted (but correct) name that would be unfair. @96.48.148.177: If you need help with creating a Draft:Villains (Emma Blackery album) holler, it's no rocket science, I've tested the procedure elsewhere. Listing Villains on the article wishlist is apparently easy (compared with my Talibam! entry), added. –84.46.52.138 (talk) 09:06, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Just in case, if all you want is a fair-use cover image, this is also no rocket science, but requires somebody willing to log in for Special:Upload, a lo-fi variant of the cover image scaled down to whatever is usual for non-free images of album covers here, and a fair-use rationale explaining why this is required on exactly one enwiki page Emma Blackery, switched to the album page later (after the album draft was published and survived the AfD). –84.46.52.197 (talk) 18:21, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Unrelated, I think I just found the 4th wannabe-author using the same phrases "flirts with tropical house" and "Emma is forced to consider her own part in her downfall", some major copy and paste adventure without credits from "Dirt" via "Icarus" ending at "Villains". –84.46.52.203 (talk) 09:09, 27 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Technologicpulses and Aerhx: Please explain what you're trying to do in the #Discography, nobody disputes that the LP track list should go to an Villains album article when available. Clearly not all "singles" were available as vinyl. But some are listed on Discogs, some were available (downloads for sale) on beatport.com, I don't know which tracks are available on iTunes/Google play/Spotify, and all are available as YouTube music videos. What are your sources? Just in case, I'm not talking about obscure fan videos, but the former EmmaBlackeryVEVO + Topic videos now merged into the EmmaBlackery main channel. –84.46.53.163 (talk) 22:12, 29 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@CalMillbo: Nevertheless you are supposed to get a consensus on the talk page before massive modifications after some presumably not too bad GAN + GOCE state. Nobody disputed that the track list should go to Villains (Emma Blackery album) when it exists, but that's not yet the case. You have not stated how you identified proper singles instead of mere music videos. If that was your personal crystal ball I'll revert the discography. –84.46.52.203 (talk) 00:05, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The songs I left in the singles section were all either uploaded to iTunes/Bandcamp at one point as singles or were launched as singles by Emma alongside official music videos. The discography was originally filled with full tracklists of EPs as if they were all released individually as singles. I can try and track down the sources to prove all this if it's such a big issue. CalMillbo (talk) 01:17, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not a big issue, only a known (on this talk page) issue. If you used something better than discogs + the archived bandcamp page (I'm aware of those two) it is better: ^.^b84.46.52.203 (talk) 02:42, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Cats

For Leia see #Missing info above or in /Archive 1#Missing info.
Commons OVERcat

I've sorted the cats from well-known to utter dubious, see above for the removed feminism category until somebody finds a source better than a deleted podcast or similar.[11] It's the same mess as on Sasha Grey, where I have so far removed 8 cats without getting any answer to why they were added, mixing completely unrelated concepts including location, religion, gender, sexual preferences, and former job.

Fortunately the zealots have not yet discovered Blackery, we are not forced to produce Christian or Atheist out of thin air—I'd consider both as insult, libel, and in conflict with BLP policies—unless there are some solid sources, plural. Actually I could guess what the "correct" cat would be, and could also find the video, where she stated that this belongs to the topics she does not discuss in public.

The (now) first eight categories are simple, 1991, living, Basildon, Musician+Essex, female record producer (Emma, that's Kate, say "hi"), wellness writer, female blogger, and FWIW Revelmode. The "female blogger" is based on December 2018, there is no "female blogger" on Yoko Ono, I killed this stupid cat here: The gender is perfectly irrelevant for blogs in the 2010s, otherwise please show me the "male blogger" category, and the enwiki-manual for transgender blogger categories with wikilinks to a verifiable community consensus.

Without female blogger the female YouTuber could make sense; as of 2011, when it maybe was not yet perfectly normal. Please show me the "male YouTuber" category while at it, again with a verifiable enwiki-community consensus about transgender YouTuber etc. BTW, do we have any source for "female", e.g., how sure are we that she is no younger brother of the Kenyan Obama?

With female YouTuber "in" for whatever reason I'm not sure about English YouTuber, how often do categories repeat the same info female, British, women, English, … in absolutely no predictable way? I get that English is sharper than British, if asked I could sing c:COM:REDCAT, above all avoid loops was a part of my UseNet/FidoNet religion, and graph theory is the one topic in math/CS I never forgot.

That's already three YouTuber categories, Revelmode+female+English. The "comedy" is not state of the art, I removed it on probation, same idea as former "adult"/"porn" on Sasha Grey. Ditto English video blogger, the article says "has not posted since May 2018" about vloggery. Maybe English vlogger would be sharper than English YouTuber, OTOH vlog is not necessarily YouTube. –84.46.53.140 (talk) 22:09, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I take the 5th for this edit, no "phan" will be surprised. –84.46.53.12 (talk) 21:01, 29 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Learned something new, WP:BLPCAT and WP:DUPCAT. For this BLP it means that Category:Female YouTubers would be no dupe of Category:YouTubers, because it is a non-diffusing subcategory, but Category:Comedy YouTubers would be a dupe, therefore Category:YouTubers is not needed here.[12]84.46.52.214 (talk) 06:02, 15 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Brentwood Festival

Brentwood Festival on 14 July 2019 needs a reliable source beating WP:CRYSTAL.[13]84.46.52.203 (talk) 00:16, 27 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

For various reasons this is not what I'd consider as RS, and that barely beats various sites selling tickets. I hadn't the faintest what scrobbles are, are they relevant on enwiki? –84.46.53.102 (talk) 02:05, 23 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Jambase published a day-by-day lineup. While at it I added the 30min BBC 5 interview (audio only) for DJ Nihal's Headliners, also in July 2019. Sadly a BBC 5 Cute without you clip is lost, the photo is nice.[14]

Villains Tracklist

I just finished up a quick grammar pass and noticed that the formatting for the Villains tracklist looks more than a bit messy. It may just be my browser, so could one of you chime in and confirm? I'm extremely new to this whole editing thing, so I'd admittedly need to leave that fix to someone more experienced. However, while I'm writing about it, is that tracklist notable enough to include in the first place? NinjaPenguinDan (talk) 04:41, 29 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

That was my bad idea for two reasons: (1) Somebody suggested a page for the album, cf. #Villains, and that page would need a track list. (2) The singles actually list all tracks of the EPs, because I never figured out what was "really" a single, or "only" a music video showing up in the "Emma Blackery topic" or EmmaBlackeryVEVO channels on YouTube.
For the Villains LP it's clearer, and it would be odd to exclude the 11-4=7 tracks from the LP, but list almost everything else (some early demos and royalty free tracks are not mentioned at all, Blackery deleted her bandcamp account in one of her irregular history clean-up exercises ;) I've replaced 12em (4 columns for me) by 15em (3 columns for me), does that change anything for you, and is it better? –84.46.53.175 (talk) 06:05, 29 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Gotcha. Thanks a bunch for the info. I suppose I would have found your first point about Villans had I read through the rest of the talk page in more detail, so we'll just say 'lesson learned' and leave it at that. Thanks for not slapping me down harshly. I'm still not entirely sold on its necessity in this particular article, but as a newbie, I'd probably best not debate it further until I have a good bit more familiarity with the style guidelines. As for your formatting adjustment, that does look neater, so thanks for the effort. However, I glanced at a few other album-related articles and found a guide at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Albums/Album_article_style_advice#Track_listing, and after some examination it just doesn't seem to match stylistically. A simple numbered list without columns would work, though aesthetically I'd prefer the {{Track listing}} template that they list. That's purely a matter of personal preference, though, so take it with a grain of salt. Yes, I do realize that this article isn't strictly within the scope of WikiProject Albums, but I'd wager this specific usage falls close enough that we can follow their style manual. Any thoughts? –NinjaPenguinDan (talk) 06:41, 29 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I think the template sucks. The output is nice, but now it's very obvious that there is a track list on a BLP, which possibly shouldn't be there. –84.46.53.175 (talk)
@NinjaPenguinDan: The "quick proofread" consisted of two tweaks, one minor (see edit history), one major (the tours in the lede should somehow indicate "at least three" with Busted first and Villains so far last). Fresh DEnglish at the end of #YouTube, I needed an excuse to restore the comedy category. –84.46.52.129 (talk) 18:00, 30 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Unless YouTube tries to drive only me mad the "EmmaBlackeryVEVO", "Emma Blackery - Topic", and "Vloggery" channels are now parts of the "EmmaBlackery" channel, i.e., there's no (un)subscribe button on these channels, and all videos when played claim to belong to "EmmaBlackery". The inactive "TheseSilentSeas", "boxes of foxes", and "emmaforthewin" are not affected.

The unofficial "Emma Blackery - Music" backup channel by a 3rd party is of course also not affected. In a sample of two playlists 20 music + 143 other videos still exist (incl. one private v=mP-plngOj4k that's still private, i.e., unplayable.) TBD: Are the playlists also "copied" (hard linked) to the main channel? –84.46.53.51 (talk) 00:16, 3 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Documented in one statement replacing the old Vloggery blurb. The playlists on the three zombie-channels (Topic, VEVO, Vloggery) were not moved to the main channel. –84.46.53.74 (talk) 11:43, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Quoting style

Whatever style is used, it has to be consistent for the text parts. At the moment italics for album titles (incl. EPs) and newspapers are undisputed. Ordinary US ASCII double quotes for literal quotes and a few other cases, e.g., "Song of the Year", were also undisputed.
For song titles the article had left and right single quotes as in ‘Cute Without You’ for some time, now degenerated into apostrophes as in 'Cute Without You'. A meanwhile removed head-note and a still visible example stated that this should be double quotes as in "Go the Distance". However, that clashes with the use of double quotes for quotes. Possible solutions:

  1. "Go the Distance", double quotes in italics. This tends to be messy like all italics, browsers still don't grok that italics require more space at the end, unless the next character is a comma / period / etc.
  2. ‘Go the Distance’ as it was, disadvantage, it only works with copy + paste, or for folks knowing ‘/’ by heart, and the existing bot replacing these constructs by + .
  3. “Go the Distance” That's the same idea with “/”.

Above all the single titles have to be consistent on the complete page (excl. the tables with other conventions.) So what should it be? –84.46.53.127 (talk) 07:14, 10 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

…or what Twofingered Typist did, ordinary US-ASCII is actually not too bad, apparently all "real quotes" are separated from "titles" by at least one unquoted word, and that works (visually + for me) as long as the double quote marks are "not "nested"" and "not" "adjacent". Thanks for s/1/one/, sometimes I even agree with the MOS.84.46.52.167 (talk) 07:49, 18 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox

Tessa Violet got an {{Infobox musical artist|module2={{Infobox YouTube personality|embed=yes}}}}, maybe that would be also nice here to show more info without losing the musical colour scheme (yellow: singer). –84.46.53.29 (talk) 03:32, 16 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Will be taking a look at this article..

Overall, the article is written in simple and clear English - this is fine. My other thoughts however..

  • What does "experimented with paid promotion" mean? Same goes for CC-BY licence (don't assume the reader knows what it is)
  • Make sure you link to/explain briefly an EP. Not everyone knows that it stands for "Extended Play"
  • "Blackery founded her second independent record label" - When did she ever start her first record label? There was no mention of a first.
  • Why is there an image from a Zelda video game? (I know she's a fan, but not sure that's relevant here)
  • Why is the track listing for the album Villains here?
  • I understand it doesn't need to be a long biography - but readers may want to know, perhaps, about her artistry, influence on the public, channel demographics etc.

Article looks stable and well-illustrated with images. In my view however, needs a bit more polishing to be a Good Article. Hiya111 (talk · contribs) 12:46, 29 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

OOO (layer 3 out of order)

Lede fixed. The rest will take some time, for starters I missed the GA1, and nobody cared to mention that a Draft:Villains (Emma Blackery album) exists. –84.46.52.173 (talk) 22:26, 6 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
1st of 6: #Villains track list rescued from the edit history and merged into Draft:Villains (Emma Blackery album). –84.46.52.173 (talk) 22:52, 6 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
2nd of 6: Wikilinked 1st EP in #Music, the lede and the #Discography were already okay. I'm waiting for a GA2 on Sasha Grey, therefore I fear we'll miss the chance to join the WP:WikiProject Women#GA focus of the month January 2019: Women in Music. –84.46.53.207 (talk) 08:03, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
3rd of 6: Removed both irrelevant "second" from "second label" RWG Records, the "first" is only mentioned in an #EPs reference, and if Fireflight (also in #EPs) was actually a collaboration the counter would be off by one. –84.46.53.207 (talk) 09:53, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
4th of 6: Triforce tattoo mentioned in #Personal life, DEnglish alert, post-GA1 fixes were obviously not checked in the pre-GA1 GOCE. –84.46.52.251 (talk) 14:15, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
5th of 6: crappy CC-BY-SA abbr element replaced by ordinary wikilink, "paid promotion + influencer marketing" consolidated into influencer marketing, GOCE parentheses removed, unclear (wrt whose fault was that) "A and B and C" 2018 statement replaced by 2018 "A" followed by "B and C" with references after punctuation. –84.46.52.251 (talk) 14:58, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

EB category?

Do articles + other pages about a person get a category? We have this BLP, the album, the cover art, and two redirects (book + record label). I've never seen that, but removed three non-existing (=suggested) categories from the album when it was still a draft. (45min for the review was amazing.) –84.46.53.207 (talk) 10:33, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
