DXCM, under the brand 97.9 Love Radio Zamboanga, is the FM radio station owned by Manila Broadcasting Company operating at Zamboanga City. The station's studio and transmitter is located in Jose Go Huilo Building, Tomas Claudio Street, Zamboanga City.
History and format
DXCM 97.9 was inaugurated as Love Radio on October 12, 1990 as the all-love-songs radio. In the early years, DXCM carried live news broadcast from DZRH and plays classic, OPM and pop music. It also aired "Love Radio Top 30 Countdown" and the "Afternoon Radio Show" in the mid-1990s.
Since 2005, Love Radio Zamboanga has been played pop music Monday to Saturday direct from Manila (through 90.7 Love Radio) as a result of the network DJs' popularity. Quatro Cantos (Four Songs) is the daily music countdown of Love Radio featuring four songs voted by listeners via SMS. Every Sunday, Love Radio plays oldies. Aside from music, the station gives jokes from Kadyot Pinong and Kukurukuku (Kuru-kuro ni Kukurukuku / Kukurukuku's Thoughts).
However, in late 2008, lack of resources and financial challenges led to Love Radio's closure of air-time operations in Zamboanga after 18 years of operation. On July 8, 2009, DXCM was once again on-the-air, this time with the transition of the station's identity from Love Radio to Easy Rock. This transition marks the birth of the first lite rock (all-ballad) radio station in Zamboanga City.
After five years of airing as Easy Rock, DXCM reverted itself once again as Love Radio on February 26, 2014 coinciding with the rebranding of DXHT, another network of the MBC as Yes! FM.
