Set details

Planar Chaos contains 165 cards. The designers of this set are Bill Rose (lead designer), Matt Place, Mark Rosewater, and Paul Sottosanti. [1]

Pete Venters has contributed art for Planar Chaos (Information confirmed by Pete Venters).[citation needed]

There will be at least one dragon in Planar Chaos, which, according to Matt Cavotta, might have the best dragon art of any Magic card. [2]

Recently a picture of an unknown female angel wearing armor very similar to that of another MTG character Akroma, was released with the caption "What if you went to a prerelease and everything had changed?" Planar Chaos will most likely contain cards that have off-color effects and abilites. [citation needed]

The set will have "Timeshifted" cards as confirmed by Mark Rosewater. Unlike Time Spiral, the Timeshifted cards will not be reprints of older Magic cards, will have normal rarity symbols as opposed to purple, and will be considered a part of the expansion, not a separate sub-set. [3]

In a magicthegathering.com Arcana update for Thursday, October 26th, the set symbol for Planar Chaos, along with a new card art and logo banner, was revealed. [4]

In another magicthegathering.com Arcana update on Thursday, December 14th, the 4 theme deck boxes along with the booster box art were revealed. [5]

Mechanics

The strong blue morph mechanic-theme present in Time Spiral was originally intended for Planar Chaos. Looking for blue's primary identity in the set, Time Spiral's head designer, Brian Schneider, moved the majority of the Planar Chaos morph cards to Time Spiral. [6]

Theme decks

Four theme decks for Planar Chaos were reveald in the December 14th Magic Arcana post on magicthegathering.com. [7]
