Jorge Álvares (died July 8, 1521) was a Portuguese explorer.

He is believed to have been the first Portuguese to set foot in Southern China in 1513. This visit was followed by the establishment of a number of Portuguese trading centres in the area, which were eventually consolidated in Macau.
