August 2007 Requested move

The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

This mountain appears on Ordnance Survey Ireland maps as Galtymore Mountain. A Google search yields about 11,100 results for Galtymore and about 1,200 results for Galteemore. Timeineurope 12:05, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And about 259 for "Galtymore Mountain", the proposed title. This is clearly not the most common name. Irish mountains are notoriously variable in their spellings, and in a case like this where the OSi is so clearly outnumbered, I don't think the move would be wise. There is room for discussion between "Galtymore" and "Galteemore", but "Galtymore Mountain" can be ruled out. --Stemonitis 16:56, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well just as reference. Briticana uses the "Galtymore Mountain" spelling. I personally think we should use that spelling. --Tλε Rαnδom Eδιτor (tαlk) 19:10, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If that's correct, then a move to Galtymore rather than "Galtymore Mountain" seems reasonable. The latter seems a rather artificial construction. zoney talk 14:09, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The above discussion is preserved as an archive of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

This article has been renamed from Galteemore to Galtymore as the result of a move request. --Stemonitis 13:40, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Overhauled

Overhauled this article (as per MacGillycuddy's Reeks, Purple Mountain and Brandon Mountain articles). Have merged the Galtee Mountains article with Galtymore. Most of the topics, geology, naming, hill walking etc. are the same for both. Ensure that we have at least one substantive article on the Galtees that has a better chance of being maintained in the future (the individual articles were more like stubs). Gave a full list of the 24 peaks with key details. Britishfinance (talk) 14:40, 31 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for this TRM ! I clean this up post the other GAN reviews so hopefully in better shape. I was able to change the columns of the table per the MOS:ACCESS point earlier, but the rows did not work for me (I was not able to format right). If you could show me how hte first two rows would work, I will fill in the rest. I will clean up the Philip Treacy article now, so better if you started with this one first? thanks. No worries. The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 17:22, 15 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks The Rambling Man, I have made all those changes below. Hope that works? Britishfinance (talk) 15:38, 16 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Comments

  • I would work to remove the references from the lead, and make sure all the information is mentioned and expanded upon in the main part of the article.
    •  Done
  • The height in the lead is rounded and therefore the conversion to feet is different from there to the infobox.
    •  Done
  • "+10–hour" I guess this means "at least 10 hour-"? but I'm not sure.
    •  Done
  • PW Joyce -> P. W. Joyce.
    •  Done
  • "The geology of the Galty Mountains are described" geology is singular here, so "is" described, isn't it?
    •  Done
  • " Silurian Shales" sea of blue and shale isn't normally capitalised.
    •  Done
  • "by tors built of conglomerate rock " built of seems odd in this context, aren't they naturally formed?
    •  Done, changed to "formed from" as more natural
  • "with deep corries and" link corrie here instead of "of deep corries, most of"
    •  Done
  • "purple sandstone" is mentioned in the infobox, nowhere else.
    •  Done, infobox now says purple-reddish, per Geology section.
  • "by loughs. Lough Diheen" repetitive lough usage.
    •  Done
  • ("SMC") no need for quotes.
    •  Done
  • "10–hour" hyphen.
    •  Done
  • "The MountainViews Online Database list" overlinked. Twice.
    •  Done
  • I would also allow the table caption to be centrally aligned.
    •  Done
  • Row scopes would be great on the names. Copy the way I demonstrated last time (I think).
    •  Done, thanks
  • Translation sorting is a bit odd because it's basically free text, but things like "quote marks" mess it up even more.
    •  Done
  • "the eastern-cairn" not sure this needs hyphenation but also repetitive.
    •  Done
  • "over 4 years" more than four years.
    •  Done
  • ("SEMRA") again, not in quotes.
    •  Done
  • "1922.[4][6] [13]" remove space.
    •  Done
  • " PW Joyce suggests" P. W.
    •  Done
  • "the NW of" northwest.
    •  Done
  • No SHOUTING in ref titles.
    •  Done

That's it for now, so it's on hold. Cheers. The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 09:20, 16 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

All good. I made a few minor tweaks, but passed to GA. Nice work. The Rambling Man (Stay indoors, stay safe!!!!) 15:59, 16 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
