The California/Nevada 2000 Challenge
Improve/create articles related to California or Nevada whenever you feel like it!
2.8%
Aiming to reach 2000 article improvements and creations for California or Nevada long term from general independent article contribution, as part of WikiProject United States' "50,000 Challenge". I encourage all editors from California/Nevada and elsewhere to contribute towards this and demonstrate what progress we're making with development long term. Anybody can contribute any article on California or Nevada, from biographies to clubs to highways!, so please feel free to add to this list independently whenever they feel like it if you've worked on an article related to any of these countries. Article cleanup and basic referencing improvements, expansions, new articles, DYKs, Good Articles, Featured Articles etc, are all welcome. The general focus is on quality, expansions or minimum start class articles are preferred, but meatier stubs provided that they're well-sourced and useful are also welcome.
Note that this 2000 Challenge is not a contest in itself. It's too early to talk about contests, but if support and participation in this took off there's always the possibility of staging a specific California contest and aim to even surpass 2000 articles!. Let's see how this goes first though. Overall the main aim with this is to improve existing articles and make new articles consistently of reasonable quality, so to inject quality in articles across the state. I would be very grateful if people could help spread the word on this, invite potential contributors who often work on articles related to the state and city and we can see what can be achieved!
Goals
Improve the quality of existing articles related to California or Nevada, and to encourage more editors to improve general article quality and sourcing.
To encourage the creation of missing content and build a highly comprehensive coverage of California on English Wikipedia. In doing so, to develop a detailed missing article directory for California/Nevada by county and topic to promote long term growth and view overall scope.
The try evenly distribute article improvements and creation across the state. Aim to get articles on every county improved through setting goals and percentage bars, such as de-stubbing one article from each county, or improving 50 women bios from the state etc. In the long term thus attempt to make articles of higher quality and coverage more consistent and even.
To generate a momentum for California/Nevada and stage contests/editathons which fuel growth and attract people to improve article quality. In the long term, continue to build bridges with institutions within California or Nevada. Continue to get libraries, universities and cultural institutions involved in hosting editathons and forming partnerships with Wikipedia in contests, which promote growth.
