Raeesah Begum Farid Khan (born 1994) is a Singaporean activist and politician of the Workers' Party.[1]

Career

Raeesah has been an activist since she was 17, mainly focusing on refugee issues.[1] Prior to entering politics, she studied economics and marketing at Murdoch University.[2] She is also the founder of the Reyna Movement.[1][2]

In the 2020 Singaporean general election, she contested for the Sengkang GRC under the banner of the Workers' Party. She is also the youngest candidate of the party.[2] She was subsequently elected with 52.13% of the votes.[3]

Controversy

Shortly before the 2020 election, Raeesah had faced criticisms due to her comment related to racial and religious issues.[4] According to the Singapore Police Force (SPF), she wrote a comment that the country's law is discriminating citizens while rich Chinese and white people were treated differently.[4] She later apologised for the remark.[4]
