Hegde is a surname from Karnataka, India. It is mainly found among Hindus of the Havyaka Brahmins community in Karnataka. Some people in Bunt community also carry this surname. Kurubas community known as Hegde in Mandya,Mysuru and Ramnagar Districts.
Etymology
The word Hegde is derived from the Old Kannada word Pergade which means chief.[1]
