Paolo Enrico Tusi Contis (born March 14, 1984) is a Filipino actor of Italian descent[1][2] who appeared in his acting debut as a child actor in the ABS-CBN show Ang TV. In 2004, he is currently an artist to GMA Network. He has won several awards, particularly at the PMPC Star Awards.
Biography and career
Contis is half-Italian (from his father) and half-Filipino (from his mother). He was a popular child actor where he already appeared in various movies during the mid-1990s. Despite being cast in the popular teleserye Mara Clara, Contis was better known for being part of the kids-oriented program Ang TV and the primetime sitcom Oki Doki Doc.
In his teenage years, he was launched as a member of Star Circle (now Star Magic) Batch 3 in 1996. Contis also rose to fame for his appearance in the youth-oriented teen drama show Tabing Ilog.
In 2004, Contis moved to GMA Network. He ventured into more mature roles as his child actor and teenybopper days have ended. Contis played supporting and comic roles in many GMA shows and movies, and has also found his niche in portraying villain roles. In 2008, Contis was hailed as the Best Actor at the 24th PMPC Star Awards Best Actor award for Banal, a film directed by GMA reporter Cesar Apolinario, who won as Best Director in the Metro Manila Film Festival in that same year.
Contis used to host the now-defunct GMA 7 comedy info-tainment show OC To The Max! (second season), replacing Marvin Agustin's show Outrageous and Courageous. Contis has previously hosted World Records as well.
In August 2009, Contis played the role of Kobra, Valentina's father, in the fantaserye Darna. This was the second time that Contis has worked with actress Marian Rivera. The two had previously worked together in Ang Babaeng Hinugot Sa Aking Tadyang. Contis and Rivera worked together for the third time when they starred in the TV comedy sitcom Show Me Da Manny, co-starring with Benjie Paras, Lovi Poe, and Ogie Alcasid.
Contis also hosted the now-defunct GMA 7 comedy reality show, Wipeout: Matira Ang Matibay. This became Contis' ninth comedy show in his television career, and his fourth comedy show with GMA.
Contis was part of a newest GMA 7 Afternoon Drama, Little Star, marking his return to dramatic roles. He also became a guest-host of the game show Press It, Win It on GMA when original host Joey de Leon took a temporary leave of absence. De Leon later returned to host the show.
In 2010, Contis returned to doing reality shows through Puso Ng Pasko: Artista Challenge, GMA's first Christmas reality show.
In 2011, Contis recently work with his former teleseryes are Machete and Futbolilits. He has also hosted a game show again entitled Manny Many Prizes with his main host boxing champion and Cong. Manny Pacquiao. He also hosted his 1st talent show I-Shine: Talent Camp TV with his co-host Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski and child actress Jillian Ward.
In 2012, Contis also starred in two GMA shows, My Beloved and Aso ni San Roque
In 2013, Contis appeared in Love & Lies, and the recent remake of Villa Quintana. This was Contis' 25th dramatic show in his TV career, and 23rd dramatic show with GMA.
In 2020, Contis' two movies, Ang Pangarap kong Holdap and Through Night and Day earned spots in Netflix as most viewed in the Philippines. The said movies had earlier been released in theaters in 2018 but did not do well at the box-office.
Personal life
Contis is the father of three children: Xalene and Xonia from his previous marriage to former EB Babe Lian Paz and Summer Ayana (born January 4, 2019) with his current partner LJ Reyes.
