The Beat Circus is a band which formed in 2002 out of a free improvisation ensemble and evolved into a dark cabaret band led by multi-instrumentalist / singer-songwriter Brian Carpenter. They describe their style as "Dark Carnival" music. Dark Weimer-style cabaret songs, saloon songs sung through pipes and bullhorns, bawdy Tin Pan Alley burlesque grinds, Russian folk songs, Spanish strains, Romanian brass band music, and slow, simmering funereal music are some of the facets which make up their sound.
Their first CD Ringleader's Revolt was released by Innova Records in 2004. In 2005 they recorded cartoon music for animator Lorelei Pepi which is slated for release in early 2006. In 2006 they are recording their second CD Dreamland with NYC producer Martin Bisi.
