Hoover is a city located in Jefferson and Shelby Counties in Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 62,742. Hoover is one of the three primary cities in the Birmingham-Hoover-Cullman Metropolitan Area.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 113.1 km² (43.7 mi²). 111.7 km² (43.1 mi²) of it is land and 1.3 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.17% water.

The racial makeup of the city is 87.66% White, 6.77% Black or African American, 0.16% Native American, 2.89% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.40% from other races, and 1.09% from two or more races. 3.79% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

In the city the population is spread out with 24.8% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 32.6% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 10.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 95.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.5 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $61,982, and the median income for a family is $79,912. Males have a median income of $55,660 versus $34,836 for females. The per capita income for the city is $33,361. 3.4% of the population and 2.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.7% of those under the age of 18 and 3.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
Attractions
The city of Hoover is home to the Riverchase Galleria, which is one of the largest shopping centers in the Southeast and Alabama's most visited tourist destination. Also, its one of the largest mixed-used centers in the country (around 2 million in square footage). The anchors of this shopping center includes JCPenney, McRae's, Parisians, Proffits, Rich's-Macy's, and Sears.
