Valmiki Ashram(Template:Lang-ne) is situated in Chitwan district of Nepal,inside Chitwan National Park.[1][2]It is close to the Triveni Dham where Tamsa, Sonbhadra and Narayani meet.[3] According to Hindu mythology,it is the place where Rishi Valmiki lived and wrote the famous hindu epic Ramayan.[4]Sita gave birth to Lav and Kush in Valmiki Ashram. Later, she took samadhi near the ashram.

Valmiki is said to have been a notorious bandit before becoming a sage. At that time, his name was Ratnakar. He was the son of Bhil. He was born and raised in the forest. It is said that the main source of their livelihood was looting. Ratnakar, like his ancestors, chose the path of livelihood from robbery. He later got married. His children were born. He resorted to other forms of looting and violence to support his children. Once a group of saints was going somewhere through the forest. Ratnakar also started threatening to loot and kill the sadhus. However, while arguing with the Sadhu Mandali, he realized that he was committing a sin and that he should be the only participant in it. Eventually, he became disgusted with his deeds and felt remorse. After that, Ratnakar quit his job and started meditating. He became Maharshi Valmiki from the bandit Ratnakar.[4]
