Laasanod is the capital of Sool region of British Somaliland protecerate which gained it's independence 26th June 1960 and days later opted for a union with Italian Somaliland to form a two state union called the republic of Somalia.

Unfortunately, the union was to proof disastrous and and in favour of former Italian Somaliland. Things would only get worst with the abondenment of civil rule and a coupe orchestrated by Siyad Barre in 1969. Siyad Barre, who hailed from the Italian side of the union sought about oppressing the British Somaliland citisens actively and actively carried out acts contrary to human rights. A bitter genocide was committed against the British Somaliland civilians in later years by the Barre regime. In one city alone, Hargeysa, 50, 000 civilians were killed in cold blooded air raids. meanwhile, The Isaq, the dominat clan of British Somaliland, who the hostilities were mainly aimed at, would organize the Somali National Movement (SNM) which fought a bitter war against Siyaad Barre and eventually managed to take control of all the former British Somaliland terratories. SNM, called for a reconcillation between all the clans of British Somaliland and in 1991, Somaliland announced the restoration of it's soverieghnty and commitment to the colonial borders.

Years later, 1998, Puntland, an entity with no history, no justifiable cause was announced in the north east parts of Somalia. Later in 2002, Puntland millitias would occupy Lasanod forcefuly although Somaliland (even though millitarly much superiour) did not retaliate in order to ovioud unnecessary loss of civilian life. For years Somaliland would try and resolve the situation peacefully through a dialogue but Puntlands response was further acts of hostility and abuse of the residents of Lasanod/Sool.

Eventually in October 2007 the people of Lasanod who got fed up with Puntland's abuse and the failure of Hartism (the basis behind Puntland's claim of Lasanod i.e both the dominant Majerteen of Puntland and Dhulbahante of Sool hail from the Harti clan) to deliver, decided to be part of Somaliland once again.

Therefore Lasanod Falls within the boundary of British Somaliland and people of Lasanod are committed to Somaliland's desire to restore sovereignty as agreed upon by all the clans (shortly after liberating it from Siyad Barre) of Somaliland in Burco including the Dhulbahates in 1991.

Capital Name

I assume Laascaanood is the same as Las Anod since this news article mentions the capital of Sool with a kind of similar name. I mentioned it in the main article and created a redirect for it.

October 2007

Since October 15, various editors have changed the article to show Las Anod as being under the jurisdiction of Somaliland, Puntland, or Somalia. The Somaliland claim is the only one accompanied by an attribution and so I have reverted to that version of the article. What is disputed is the notion of Somaliland, which is not a country nor it is recognized as such by any world organzations. So for anyone to call a city in Somalia, Somaliland is repugnant. It is a clan disagreement (much like the civil war) and which clan has what land. Nothing more, nothing less. I don't expect to resolve Somaliland's sovereignty issue on my talk page (if anywhere), but still, isn't it accurate to say that armed forces, who claim to represent a place called Somaliland, won a battle over Las Anod on Oct. 15? -- Gyrofrog 15:45, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Las Anod (Laascaanood) is a capitol of Sool State of Somalia. The population of this city is between 100,000 and 150,000. is you need prove contact the UN. it's not part of Somaliland because no such entity is recognises by any world body. This is true. There is no WAY Las Anod has 250,000 people-- that is what the UN estimates as Bosasso's population. The entire Somali population is probably under 10m. 76.68.36.206 (talk) 04:11, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ghost town

On 13 May 2009 IP editor 65.93.166.24 added the sentence: However, since Somaliland has taken control of the city it has virtually become a ghost town since civilians got displaced during the take over. Since the inhabitants were mostly members of the Darod clan which has close ties to Puntland, it is not surprising that this might happen, but can anyone find a source? --Bejnar (talk) 21:52, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Las Anod

@:NastradamusNas, why are you vandalising the page? Las Anod is not disputed. You can look at the Sool page, In the summary it says: The city has been under full control of Somaliland for over 10 years; "In 2007, forces from Somaliland assumed control of the region". The Dhulbahante people of Northern Somalia will never accept the secession Somaliland.The Dhulbahante occupy Sool, Sanaag and Ayn regions of Northern Somalia, which covers half of the territory that has been dubbed as Somaliland. They are staunch supporters of a united Somalia have formed their own autonomy region called Khaatumo which has pledged allegiance to the Somali Federal Government. They have their own president called Professor A noli Khaliif Galaydh, a former prime minister of Somalia, and are based in Buhodle town , Ayn region. This is the birth place of the Dervish movement which fought for Somalia independence. Please keep your political ideology to yourself. You are not stating facts but opinions. Control of the territory is disputed between Khatumo State (SSC) and the autonomous region of Puntland and the "self declared" autonomous state of Somaliland. Please refer to the Khatumo State page. Las Anod is a town in Somalia, can you please stop vandalising the article. The fact that the city is under Isaaq occupation does not make it part of the Somaliland clan enclave of Somalia. lasanod is a part of somali city is and it capital city of sool region , and it is part of somalia not somali land , it is also disputed area between somali land and pun land region. punt land region is a part of federal government of somali. somalia has sitting president. so we need to clarify , this page is has misleading informotion and should be available for editing for the viewers so they get honest and fact information.Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page).

Somaliland

Laascanood inhabitants don't align with somaliland nor is it a country? Wikipedia should differentiate actual country and claims from internationally unrecognised puppet states Hurbad (talk) 10:13, 24 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Somaliland is a de facto state, this is not a claim but a reality. Lack of de jure recognition does not mean it isn't a country.
