They Came to Conquer... Uranus is an EP by American rock band Blink-182, released in February 1996 by Cargo Music. It contains three songs recorded after the release of their debut album, Cheshire Cat (1995).
Background
The EP contains three songs "Wrecked Him", "Waggy" and "Zulu," recorded at Doubletime Studios in San Diego, California. It was produced by Otis Barthoulameu, guitarist of local punk band, Cargo label-mates Fluf and later bassist of pop rock band Reeve Oliver. "Waggy" was later re-recorded for the band's second studio album, Dude Ranch, released in 1997.
Release
The EP received a limited release pressing on hand-numbered 7" blue vinyl; it would later be re-released in other vinyl colors such as green, yellow, and black. The EP has yet to receive a release on CD, streaming or digital download.
Artwork
The artwork for They Came to Conquer… Uranus was photographed by Kerry Key and it features a guy who has fallen looking up to an alien in a bathrobe. The alien seems to be inspired by E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, the famous movie alien from the movie of the same name, as his finger lights up just like in the movie.
This lighting finger, however, must not represent the alien “phoning home” (as E.T. did) but instead being prepared to be inserted into the guy’s rectum (as seen by the pun in the title “They came to conquer… your-anus”). Additionally, this connects to the band's third album, Enema of the State in which the artwork also shows a character preparing its hand to be inserted into someone.
