Charley Boorman (born on August 23, 1966 in Wimbledon, London, UK), is an English actor and adventurer. He is the son of movie director John Boorman and Christel Kruse and is married to Olly with whom he has two daughters, Doone and Kinvara. He also has two sisters, Katrine and Daisy. A third sister, Telsche, died of ovarian cancer in 1997.
Film career
Thanks to his father he got an early start in the film business as a child actor first appearing in 1972 in Deliverance and then returning to movies as a young Mordred in Excalibur (1981). He starred as Tomme in The Emerald Forest and has worked solidly in the film industry since. Recent films include 1997's The Serpent's Kiss (where he met now best friend Ewan McGregor) and The Bunker (2001). He has recently taken time off from movie work for various motorcycling adventures.
Long Way Round
Boorman took part in Long Way Round, a motorcycle trip from London to New York via Europe, Russia and Mongolia with his best friend, actor Ewan McGregor in 2004. This was recorded, then later made into a successful television series, book and DVD. The series was shown around the world and the DVD and book became best sellers. He is set to undertake a sequel with McGregor in 2007 riding from John o' Groats to Cape Town, with the working title "Long Way Down".
Race to Dakar
Along with producer Russ Malkin from Long Way Round and a motorcycle team, Charley competed in the Dakar Rally in January 2006. The event was filmed and the series Race To Dakar began on Sky Two in the UK on October 17 2006.
