Censorship section

I want to get consensus for the fact that the statement in the Controversy section about Hotstar removing an episode of Last Week Tonight from the air is sourced with reliable sources and should be included in the article. This is correct, is it not? –Gladamas (talk · contribs) 21:47, 26 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

 Pass
...But if I may: Technically, it's not "removal", for that will imply that they firstly added the episode and then pulled it out for some 'inexplicable' factors, that's not what occurred here. They simply never added the episode.[ With the notice "NEW EPISODE EVERY TUESDAY AT 6:00 AM. [sic]" intact and all.] Nothing more, nothing less.
Intro-cum-Preface as a non-willing "Wikipedian": It certainly is. Unless there's some contention over certain Indian mainstream press outlets or even Bloomberg®'s wires in Wiki boards, for that matter.
The deletions are made by a suspicious-design of new users not limited to just Wikipedia®, but across the 'pop-Interweb'.( Or shall I be 'too' forthcoming?)
In fact, my original-research says that it's just not the only reason Star® India has extended its censorship. I can attest[ but am not willing to engage in contributing] that the platform has already removed an episode of talk-show Koffee with Karan® following social-media backlash over perceived misogyny. In fact, my original-research also tells me that hotstar® pulled-back the whole catalogue of CINEMAX®-sky one® series Strike Back®[ in spite of territorial exclusivity] even before the preceding season/"series"( titled "Vendetta") premiered, because as it turns out: It has a 2-episodes long subplot which equated Hindutva to other forms of terrorism. The listings of Star® India's channel-listings keep showing serial rerun-cycles of the series spanning over months since that another quiet-move of their digital business, but all reruns of the Cinemax® series only go as far as the last-episode of "Retribution". The similar stuff has occurred with another thriller-series unrelated to the Home Box Office® or even AT&T® in entirety and hotstar® no longer owns the rights to it[ before it ended] so that's besides the point.

*For the sole sake of clarity, I'm discounting the actual freshman "series" distributed by now-BBC® Studios and Cinemax® had nothing to do with it, is available standalone as Chris Ryan's Strike Back®. –Mohd.maaz864 (talk) 09:11, 7 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Edit Note: Removed the formatting from ‘*’ note and fixed the "auto-incorrect" typo from the hotstar® quote informing the day-&-date schedule of LWTwJO's fresh episode. –Mohd.maaz864 (talk) 09:24, 7 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Edit Note #2: Replaced the affirmative ‘Yep!’ with flashy,cosmetically-appealing template-icon preferred with those higher in the hierarchy of WP:UAL, added the ellipsis for formatting reasons at the start of 1st paragraph of statement, rephrased and reformatted the phrase detailing on the discussion. And added the signature-indicator, again in a callback to cosmetology. –Mohd.maaz864 (talk) 14:28, 18 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
plus Added
I have added Says whom tag to challenge the WP:ASSERT added in RevID 944748751 that TWDC® is to be blamed/held-liable for the self-censorship practices of Star® India's S-and-P. The claim is not corroborated by any of the sources so it would also qualify as WP:FAILEDVERIFICATION in spite of zero WP:INCITE whatsoever, but since I'm extra-cautious of not playing WP:HOSTILE owing to bring at the receiving-end of it myself, I went with what I thought sounded milder. I recall seeing this claim only once by "the OP" of a subreddit post who shared one of the news-reports on censorship. C'mon...! I know that TWDC® is widely-believed to be "soulless, rapacious" empire with "creativity serial-killer" as its "USP", but just because it's widely believed to be the case that TWDC® is a uniquely such an entertainment and mass-communications empire, doesn't mean it qualifies as a fact akin to "coughing is a respiratory symptom" ipso facto. Also, let's not contribute to the picture that Murdochs are paragons of "media freedom" because of FOX®'s "Animation Domination®" or whatever, whatever.( One just needs to spend just enough of time and attention at any random commentary-lineup of FOX® News, where the commentators"journalists" and contributors"experts" keep railing against "liberal media". A-gain, in fairness: A trait not unique to just them, but common amongst quite a number of Conservative press.) Canards, no matter how many times reported in the non-fiction authors and press deemed WP:RELIABLE, either attributed to sketchy primary-sources or even named ones making claims — shouldn't and can't be used as a basis for WP:WIKIVOICE. It's clearly a case of WP:NOT. –Mohd.maaz864 (talk) 15:18, 18 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Article title discussion

This really needed a discussion whether moving to Disney+ Hotstar is appropriate. As mentioned in some of the edit comments, the overall brand is still known as Hotstar, and that would be primary topic. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 14:53, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In the meantime, I am requesting RM/TR to move this back to Hotstar which is what the original article was titled prior to 11 March 2020. A request move discussion needs to take place on whether to rename it to Disney+ Hotstar. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 14:59, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Compare this with Disney Pixar vs. Pixar. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 16:13, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
AngusWOOF, here's what happened. Someone please add info from this. Kailash29792 (talk) 16:15, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Kailash29792, that just means the upcoming app might be called Disney+Hotstar. It doesn't mean the company has been renamed to Disney+ Hotstar. The company subsidiary is still Hotstar. The product is Disney+Hotstar as a tier, and is already discussed in the article section. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 16:20, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

HotstarDisney+ HotstarThis source has a quote by Walt Disney Company Asia Pacific and Star & Disney India president Uday Shankar: "Today, as we unveil Disney+ Hotstar, we take yet another momentous step in staying committed to our promise of delivering high-quality, impactful stories for India that have not only entertained but also made a difference in people’s lives, a promise that is even more meaningful in challenging times such as this". Since Hotstar is an Indian service, we should go by the domestic name. Kailash29792 (talk) 12:39, 4 April 2020 (UTC) Relisting. King of 00:04, 16 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose as per the above discussion- Hotstar is the COMMONNAME and therefore should continue to remain until sources etc pick this up, Whilst leeway and leniency is always given to Indian articles due to lack of sources (something I support and maintain) - given this is a Disney related article I therefore would assume sources would be available and or better.
If nothing gets covered in 2021 then I'd support moving but until then COMMONNAME should take precedence IMHO. –Davey2010Talk 14:10, 4 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose as the international versions of the service without Disney+ content (e.g. US, Canada) continue to operate as just "Hotstar". I would consider "Disney+ Hotstar" to be an alternate branding of the service for India only, with the overall name of the service remaining Hotstar. — stickguy (:^›)— || talk || 14:42, 4 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The Indian service is the main one, the international versions are the ones that would be labelled alternatively. Gotitbro (talk) 23:24, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think some of us opposers would be further convincedswayed if there were secondary sources / news articles posted here that show this branding going forward applying to all products covered by the article. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 00:53, 16 April 2020 (UTC) updated 20:03, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Hotstar itself had confirmed over twitter many times that existing services in UK, US and Canada will be operating under the same name Hotstar. We can consider Disney+ Hotstar as the alternative Branding for the service in India. And even the service itself is maintaing two service logos Disney+ and Hotstar separately over thier respective contents in the Video players. I guess that's enough for us that Hotstar is maintaing its brand. Saichaitanya4496 (talk) 12:28, 17 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
