Revision as of 11:17, 6 January 2007
Note to anyone intending on splitting off a section
This page has been processed by N-Bot, which, for browsing convenience, changes links to redirects to lists to links to the relevant list sections: e.g. [[Kaitain \(Dune\)]] is changed to [[List of Dune planets#Kaitain|Kaitain \(Dune\)]].
As a result, anyone who intends to split a section out of this page should be aware that, as of 16 June 2006, the following sections were linked to from the following pages:
- Chusuk: Orange Catholic Bible
- Sikun: Orange Catholic Bible, 70 Ophiuchi
- Kaitain: Shaddam Corrino IV, House Atreides, House Corrino, Earth in fiction, Kaitain, Salusa Secundus
- Tleilax: Bene Tleilax, Dune universe, List of fictional planets by medium

Tupile
Tupile is not a planet but a category of planets which are hidden, for a price, by the Spacing Guild providing a haven. Heptapod 07:04, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
- Possibly. What are you basing this on? All of the references in the Herbert books (all in Dune or Dune Messiah) can be read as consistent with only one planet. SandChigger 09:02, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
III Delta Pavonis and Ishia?
Um...isn't this just another way of referring to Caladan?
Ishia is mentioned only in The Dune Encyclopedia; should it be included here?
SandChigger 14:47, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
- You seem to be right about III Delta Pavonis, looking at the Dune appendix. And a search of text files for the novels (I have all except the last 2 Legends books) came up negative for Ishia; if it's only referenced in the Encyclopedia, then it should go. TAnthony 01:35, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
- The Planetary location revert (below) has been sorted out for the time being, so I've removed Ishia and III Delta Pavonis. TAnthony 05:50, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
Revert/Planetary locations
I just reverted the recently-added "light year distance from Earth" of many of the Dune planets. I feel a tad guilty because someone obviously put a lot of work into it, but I doubt the accuracy. What is the source? First of all, the "translations" of star and planet names smacks of original research (Shaowei = Leo, etc). Secondly, I can't imagine any canon Dune source references distances from Earth, as Earth is a relatively unimportant planet in the Dune universe. TAnthony
- I put "my light year distance from Earth" back ! The Stars and Planets of Frank Herbert's Dune . My source is :
"The Stars and Planets of Frank Herbert's Dune" A Gazetteer by Joseph M. Daniel. which is translated into French here : [1] Actually this is my very first small contribution to Wikipedia so i don't know what is the methodology for editing. I think distance from Earth are important because you can understand this way the "small" size of the dune universe in the galaxy — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.69.111.244 (talk • contribs) 02:12, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
- There is much controversy over what is considered Dune canon and how it is included in Wikipedia; for example, information from the Dune Encyclopedia is always referenced as such or listed in that article. Your source assumes that when Frank Herbert used the names of actual star systems, he was referring to those real-life systems. You and I both know he probably was, but we can't make that assumption. So I suggest a separate section at the end of the article that references your source and lists the planets and their LY distances, etc. Otherwise you have to footnote each reference, which would make an ugly References section at the bottom. - OK, I took my own advice and did a quick edit. Thanks for the contribution and I hope I didn't scare you off! Don't be surprised if other users edit it somewhat. Oh, and you may want to check it for accuracy against your source. By the way, where did you actually find it? Nothing pops up on Google (in English, anyway!) TAnthony 05:50, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

RIDICULOUS AFD TAGGING
This and MANY other articles have been tagged by User:Yrgh latly with nebulous reasoning. He says these pages fit into the deltion policy but he doesn't say how; he cites articles as unreliable and unsourced and yet they clearly are. It is ludicrous that discussions need to be held on dozens of pages to indulge his insane tagging. Can any idiot just tag AfDs? TAnthony 01:44, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
