OK, this looks in good shape. A few comments:
- Lead
- link Major general (United States) (Blunt) and Samuel Ryan Curtis
- Done
- "at the Little Blue River" or just "the river" as it has been introduced already, same for Big Blue, although it would be better as "Big Blue River"
- Done, at the various points in the article I went with one or the other as it seemed best fit
More to come. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 22:23, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
- "while Union cavalry commanded by Major General Alfred Pleasonton. Pleasonton's men forced their way across the Little Blue and retook Independence from the Confederates during the Second Battle of Independence." isn't right - should this be one sentence?
- I was missing a clause at the end of the first one
- I'm a little unsure about the fourth para, seems a bit too much detail for the aftermath
- I've cleaned it up a bit, removing a good deal of the detail.
- Body
- main template for Missouri in the American Civil War at the top of the Background section. You should do this on all your Missouri ACW articles.
- Added. I always mean to do it, but usually forget for whatever reason
- "were restricted to the southwestern portion of the state" by what?
- Added
- a note regarding Reynolds being the new governor
- Done
- put a main template for Price's Raid at the top of the Prelude section
- Done
- cannon are not usually described as underpowered, they are what they are. Suggest "and all 14 of the army's cannons were only light guns" or similar
- Went with "small-bore" as a piped link to caliber
- suggest "decided to change his objective from St. Louis to Jefferson City"
- Done
- "a three-brigade unit" generally a battalion or regiment is a unit, a brigade or higher is a formation. Also, was this organised into a division? Also, should it be "a three-brigade formation" or "the three-brigade formation" ie was it his entire command, or just part?
- Rephrased signficantly and clarified
- who took command of the KSM? Was Blunt's militia brigade from the KSM? How many militia did Curtis have that he sent to KC? Where they Kansas or Missouri militia? And Kansas City→Kansas City, Missouri
- 1) George W. Dietzler directly, but under Curtis's auspices. Clarified. 2) Yes, added 3) He had about 15,000 total, I've added the number 4) Kansas. 5) Done.
- You need to add earlier on that Curtis had control of the KSM, otherwise his authority for moving them to KC isn't obvious given Dietzler has been named as their commander. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 02:14, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
- 1) George W. Dietzler directly, but under Curtis's auspices. Clarified. 2) Yes, added 3) He had about 15,000 total, I've added the number 4) Kansas. 5) Done.
- is the reason Curtis' militia couldn't go east of the BBR because it was out of the state?
- As per above, I've added some detail on this. Curtis had promised the governor of Kansas that they wouldn't go any further than was necessary to protect Kansas.
- for advance guard link vanguard
- Done
- introduce Fagan and Marmaduke properly
- Coulda sworn I'd done that earlier, done.
- Colonel Thomas Moonlight→Moonlight and unlink duplink
- Done
- "whose Kansas militia units would not serve" would or could? Was it that they would do it, or they were willing but their orders did not allow them to?
- A bit of both. The Kansas governor didn't want them to, but the militiamen had no intention of doing so for the most part, either.
- same thing about Little Blue and Big Blue
- Fixed all, I think.
- suggest "The 11th Kansas Cavalry Regiment, supported by four cannons, was left behind to serve as a rear guard under Moonlight's command."
- Done
- "one within 1 mile (1.6 km) of the bridge and the other
at another ford4 miles (6.4 km) to the south of the bridge" which direction was the first ford?- North. Added
- "as the risk of accidental friendly fire was too great
to fire projectiles"- Done
- Unless this was incorrect, state this as fact rather than Moonlight's observation ie "Around 11:00, some of Shelby's men were approaching in support of Clark's brigade, and Blunt's command had also arrived."
- Done for Blunt, not for Shelby. Source explicitly states that 11:00 was when Moonlight sighted Shelby, although Blunt arriving at 11:00 is given in Sinisi
- note that the Union line was dismounted when it is introduced
- Done
- suggest Nichols's Regiment's→Nichols's unit's
- Done. I'm currently finishing up an article for Nichols's Regiment in my userspace.
- Thompsons'→Thompson's
- Good catch. Fixed.
- "shared command
authoritiesresponsibility"- Done
- guerilla warfare is duplinked
- Fixed
- again, the aftermath seems a bit bloated, I would just stick to the immediate aftermath, one, maybe two following battles, then briefly summarise the rest of the campaign in a couple of sentences
- Reduced by about half.
- the link to Clark should be to John Bullock Clark Jr.
- Fixed
- sources are fine
- given Shelby was the key commander who ensured the CSA prevailed, could you put the pic of him in the infobox? Alternatively, a pic of the Little Blue River if there is a reasonable one. If using Shelby, make the caption "Brigadier General Joseph O. Shelby was a key Confederate commander at Little Blue River"
- Done
- File:Kc-rivers.png needs a USGov tag for the underlying work
- Added. I think I did this right
- suggest moving the pic of Moonlight to where Shelby is now, as he is introduced as the rearguard commander here. Make the caption "Colonel Thomas Moonlight led the initial Union rearguard at the Little Blue River."
- Done
- suggest add a pic of Clark where Moonlight was, with the caption "Brigadier General John B. Clark's brigade were the first Confederate formation to cross the Little Blue River in force."
- Done (used a Brady-Handy collection image)
- You could add a pic of Blunt as the last pic on the Battle section, with the caption "Brigadier General James G. Blunt led the forces that reinforced the Union position at Little Blue River."
- Added, but then removed, as there wasn't enough space for it and it jacked up the layout
- I'll check the licensing of any photographs added as a result of the above suggestions
Great job with this. Placing on hold for the above to be addressed. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 08:41, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
