"Miss You Most (At Christmas Time)" is a song by American singer and songwriter Mariah Carey. It was written and produced by Carey and Walter Afanasieff for Carey's fourth studio album and first Christmas album, Merry Christmas (1994). The song was released as the album's second single on November 15, 1994 by Columbia Records. The song was sent to R&B radio stations in mid-November 1994.[1][2] The song didn't chart in the United States or internationally.

Critical reception

Author Chris Nickson states: “Miss You Most (At Christmas Time)” was a sad ballad, very much in line with the work Mariah had produced in the past, the type of tune that had provided most of her hits. Over keyboards and a synthesized orchestra, courtesy of Walter, Mariah sang of a long-gone lover, crystallizing the way that Christmas brought memories of the past into focus.[1]

Music video

The music video for the song was directed by Diane Martel. It features a collage of Carey in Christmas clothing, snow, children playing and Christmas decorations. It also features scenes taken from the album's first single, "All I Want for Christmas Is You". Sceneries of both music videos were homemade footages during the Christmas season of 1993 and present developing Christmas season of 1994. However, "All I Want for Christmas is You" also includes a scene of Carey preparing for the photoshoot of the album. As of November 2020, the video for "Miss You Most (At Christmas Time)" has accumulated 6.7 million views on YouTube.

Other version

A slightly arranged version of "Miss You Most (At Christmas Time)" is used in its video. The single version of the song is also the same clock length like the original album version. The version from the music video is only found on the promo CD release of the single as the only track.
