Merger proposal
I propose to merge Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition into this article. Per the consesnsus here and here, remasters generally shouldn't have its own article unless the changes are very significant (which is not the case here). OceanHok (talk) 12:16, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
:Based on what's in the article and the cursory search for more info, it doesn't seem like there's a ton of separate information and distinct development/reception details that couldn't be summarized, so I'd be fine with a merge. :Oppose the changes from original are signficant enough to warrant its own article (I mean this game was released 2 decades after the original so this is not a Talk:The Last of Us Remastered situation either). The coverage garnered by this game also satifies WP:GNG as laid out in its AFD which was a resounding keep and that was even before the game was released. Regards <span style='color: 4019FF;'><b>&nbsp;Spy-cicle💥&nbsp;</b></span> <span style='color: #1e1e1e;'><b>Talk?</b></span> 17:08, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
*Neutral comment I posted this at the other remake article. I think the determinative factor would be whether there is significant coverage of the development of this remake, to show that it has a distinct story from the original. That or an expansion of the reception. Otherwise you could very easily just add the re-release and reception to the main article, as they're currently very short. :Oppose as per Spy-Cicle. Mark49s (talk) 16:04, 20 December 2020 (UTC)

Discussion about merging with Age of Empires II HD

I'm opening discussion on merging Age of Empires II HD into this article. Due to a lack of distinct information and there being very few changes between the HD and the original version. There are some reviews for an adequate reception section but there is nothing to write about development or design. I don't think a reception section is enough to warrant a separate article. The1337gamer (talk) 21:51, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, there's really nothing different between the expansion pack and the actual game, and the Hd article really isn't an article. It would make total sense to just make a small section for it in the main article. Possibly put it in the Development or Sequel section? To me that's the only problem we're facing here: where are we going to merge it? Thatguytestw 19:11, 11 March 2015 (UTC)
Actually, now that I think about it, this is a FEATURED ARTICLE we're dealing with here. We'll/you'll need to be extremely careful to make sure that the new section looks featured-article worthy. Thatguytestw 19:16, 11 March 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thatguytestw (talkcontribs)
Merge it, HD article has no body as it is, and if we were to expand it, it would be a copy-past from the original version's article. --Soetermans. T / C 11:42, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I understand that the two articles have been merged already, but I think now with the African Kingdoms DLC and more in the works, it would make more sense if AoE2:HD had it's own article. The two games are vastly different in the time they were released, who published them, the ecosystem (Steam), the reception, etc. --Waqqashanafi (talk) 04:58, 20 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Mac OS release date

According to an old Macworld article, the Mac OS version was in beta in 2001 and the porter's website says it hit final by November 1, 2001, so how could it have been released in 1999? -Logan (talk) 01:48, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks I have now adjusted this on the current article Spy-cicle (talk) 18:51, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

New redirect (for now) for the soon to be new expansion article

As new details and a tease was released for The African Kingdoms expansion, I decided to make a redirect of it to this article, as a redirect for now, until even more details are released so we can begin working on that article as a whole. The redirect is Age of Empires II: The African Kingdoms. As its slated for a fall release, we can expect to be able to work on this article sometime in the coming months. —Mythdon 20:16, 24 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Age of Empires II: The Age of KingsAge of Empires II – This game's common name, as invoked in the major sources, is not the subtitle (as used throughout this article) but Age of Empires 2 (or II). The official name can be listed in the lede, but otherwise, the game is best known by its shorter version. czar 07:00, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Problems

Since the HD release and its multiple expansions, the article was pretty much outdated. The new content, which has sentences like "It includes new maps, campaigns, and units, a new game mode, and numerous balance and gameplay adjustments" appearing twice exactly the same, does not correspond to the quality of the rest of the article. Nevertheless, its biggest problem is sourcing. There are entire sections without any footnote, namely #Singleplayer campaigns. Things like "Deathmatch mode allows players to begin with large amounts of resources, creating a focus on military dominance, while in the regicide mode each player is given a king unit, winning by killing all of the other monarchs." also needed a citation, for example. Épico (talk) (contribs) 05:04, 24 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Don't disagree really, but in the particular case of the Singleplayer campaign section, which basically serves at the plot section of this article, there typically isn't any sourcing. Plot is typically viewed as being sourced to the game itself, so there's usually no need to denote it. -- ferret (talk) 12:35, 24 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

FA standard?

I came here to look for some info and was pleasantly surprised to see it was an FA. Then I started reading. Unfortunately, since it was promoted 11 years ago, not only has this degraded from where it was, but the FA standards have risen. If this was put to FAC now, it would be quick-failed on prose and sourcing issues. I'll give those who have this page on their watch list a good amount of time to start pulling up to current FA standards, but otherwise, I am afraid it will have to be time for a review of its status. No takers? I'll file for FAR and see if a wider audience can pull this around - SchroCat (talk) 16:23, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions for edit

Hello, Please do look at section Age of Empires II#Buildings, where it says that

The Town Center can fire arrows at enemy units within range if villagers or archers are garrisoned while under attack.

It is not true that there is necessarily any "attack", whereas it simply fires when any unit enters the line of sight. This only seems accurate to me. Please share your thought about it :) Hands of the vision (talk) 14:31, 17 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Also, please review my edit int the Age of Empires II#Units and civilizations, where I have changed "Seige Weaponry" to "Seige Weapons" because that's the form it is referred to in the game.
