Peterson's age

I'm writing on the german wikipedia article about Gilles Peterson. Gilles' birthday seems to be a secret. I can find this date nowhere in the web. Anyone knows more. Please contact me at my user page at the german wikipedia: de:Benutzer:Trainspotter. --Trainspotter 09:48, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

That's what I was going to ask - how old is the man?!! Labcoat 22:32, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
After a little searching I've discovered this: Peterson in the following interview says that he was about 18 or 19 when he was asked to dj at the first Bognor soul weekender [1]. On the Caister Soul Weekender website [2] it says the event moved from Caister to Bognor in 1980. I know this is true because I've been around that scene many years and written about Caister on the Jazz-funk article. so that makes Peterson about 44 or 45 now - I know he's older than 40, I just can't source it anywhere for definite. Escaper7 15:57, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
On his MySpace page he recently made reference (in his latest blog entry) to seeing tv host Matthew Wright - who he says he last saw in the school playground. Wright was born in 1965. So chances are, Peterson's DOB is closer to 1965 than 1961. So it should be changed in the article to 'circa 1965'? unsigned
He was born in 1964 - see Guinness Who's Who of popular music. Escaper7 14:49, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If that is the case, then he won't have attended school in the mid-late 80s. More likely mid-late 70s or late 70s/early 80s. (i.e. he'd have been 16 in 1980, and 18 in 1982 - the two usual ages at which you leave school in the UK. t1mmyb (talk) 08:01, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
His DOB is 1964. A Myspace blog post a few days ago concerned celebrating his 44th birthday. Labcoat (talk) 10:48, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Expansion

I believe there's a lot more detail to Peterson's career, so I've added some new sub-headings, hopefully editors will consider adding to this. It's perhaps worth writing a separate section on his involvement with various labels, including his new one Brownswood. Escaper7 07:05, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation of Name

How is "Gilles" in this case pronounced? Is it like in French? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrarias (talkcontribs) 21:50, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He always pronounces it like "Giles" (general British spelling) with a J (for "Jam") sound and "illes" sounds (like "Isles"). Mahrooq (talk) 16:54, 24 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah as Mahrooq said. Though as his background is en français (his real second name, Moehrle, being Swiss I believe), so occasionally he jokes on his shows that it should actually be the French pronunciation of "Gilles"; almost sounding like "Jill" (using British RP pronunciation). But given he lives, and was brought up as British, so the French pronunciation should not actually be used, as "Gilles" in RP Brit English is "G-isles"; ie. we don't take-on the french pronunciation anyway being British English language speakers. (It's like the wrong usage of newsreaders pronouncing French names using their French pronunciation, when the English version of the French place is NOT pronounced in that way.) Hope you got all that, good, lol --Jimthing (talk) 15:26, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

6 Music & MBE

OK, so I have added the new section here, 6 Music template at bottom, and made a few edits to fix things. re. MBE: I noticed this had been added, and found a Debrett's cite with it, but still really not sure it's correct. Tried the London Gazette supplements where these things officially get advertised, and couldn't find the honour on there (though their database is a hell to get info out of, so possibly missed!) and other press was cold too, hence if someone else can add more verification cites here it would be great (or remove the thing if it's wrong, adding a hidden note box to explain the Debrett's cite error), thanks. GP|3hrs on 6M: nice! --Jimthing (talk) 09:49, 30 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Personal life

Not too many details about his personal life although this article mentions his Japanese wife but I don't have any further information: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-52727025# — Preceding unsigned comment added by 132.185.161.132 (talk) 16:08, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I've wondered about this too, but no-one on here seems to know/have a view Escaper27 (talk) 12:39, 16 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
