The Emerald Hill Zone, also known as the Green Hill Zone is a zone in the Sonic The Hedgehog series, and is also seen in the Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon as well.

Characteristics

The zone is green, often with Spring-like weather, with blue skies, green landscapes, and the view of the ocean. In the first two Sonic games, the zone is said to be an island and implied to be the home of the main protagonists in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Referred to as "Green Hill" in the first Sonic the Hedgehog game, the zone consists of three "acts", or stages, while it is known as the "Emerald Hill" in Sonic The Hedgehog 2 with only two acts.

Minor Changes in Graphics

The aesthetic details of the zones have mildly changed from the first to second Sonic the Hedgehog games. In the first, the zone is seen with the ground appearing to be "checkered", between light and dark brown, a pattern not seen in the second game. The absence of sunflowers are also seen in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 as well, and a major change in enemies could be noticed.
