Bhulan The Maze is Indian Chhattisgarhi language drama film written and directed by Manoj Verma and produced by Swapnil Film Producations. The film is based on Sanjeev Bakshi's noval "Bhulan Kanda"[details 1]. The film stars Omkar Das Manikpuri, Rajendra Mishra, Mukesh Tiwari, Ashok Mishra and Anima Pagare. The film focus on social justice system among Bhujiya community, a tribal community Indigenous to Chhattisgarh state. The story is of, how an accidental death is projected as murder, and how a poor old man is convinced by the villagers to take the charges of murder, to save a very simple and straight man. Even the village head had an option to hide the incidence, as the dead man did not have any family or relatives neither any police station near by, though he reports the police to respect the Law. Later all the villagers along with the village head are sent to jail for mishandling the truth. These simple, honest and selfless villagers, who work only for peace and happiness of their family and village, when brought to the city for imprisonment, they find all the city dweller under the effect of “Bhulan”. 70% of the population in India lives in rural areas. Most of them are tribal. The rules and regulations of law are made by some of those 30% urban people sitting in air conditioner. That ruthless law is implemented on the tribal and the other villagers. The film unfolds the difficulties and complexities of the law being faced by the tribal. Law is made to protect the innocent and prosecute the guilty but alike stepping on “Bhulan”, it seems that our judicial system’s feet has fallen on “Bhulan Kanda” and is needed to be touched and awakened.

Plot

The story is of a tribal village of Chhattisgarh. Bhakla and Birju are resident of village Mahuabhata. One day they had a fight on the occupancy of the land. Incidentally Birju dies after falling on plough. Bhakla had a family so the villagers are not in a favor to send him to jail, instead they requested a lonely living old man “Ganjha” from the same village to take all charges of murder. Ganjha takes the charges and get life imprisonment. In the jail the jailor observes Ganjha’s noble behaviour and some other incidences that lead to believe him that he can’t be a murderer. With jailors appeal to the high court for re-investigation of the case the truth reveals. Ganjha is released, and along with Bhakla the whole villagers were sent to jail for hiding the truth. On their way to jail they realize that even the people from the big cities are also under the influence of the plant “bhulan”, and they are amazed why these people are not being touched yet to get awake. Bhakla had a habit of saying “hao” (yes) before every sentence. When he is presented before the court of justice the public prosecutor with his slyness and shrewdness proves Bhakla guilty misusing his habit of saying “hao”. Bhakla gets death penalty. Later he got acquitted by the effort of his lawyer.
