Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests
Appearance
If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
If you are here because you want an admin to approve of your new article or your proposed page move, you are in the wrong place.

- To list a technical request: Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
the - If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.

Uncontroversial technical requests
- Maldev Rathore (currently a redirect to Maldeo Rathore) → Maldeo Rathore (move · discuss) – "Maldeo Rathore" is the uncontroversial WP:COMMONNAME and has 2 times more result than "Maldev Rathore". >>> Extorc.talk 06:59, 11 August 2022 (UTC)
- Extorc Not objecting, but this was moved the other way back in 2017 ([1]) so may not be uncontroversial. -Kj cheetham (talk) 09:41, 11 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Kj cheetham: It was done by an editor who was asked to undo all his page moves and start discussions because they were inaccurate.[2] He agreed with it but quit Wikipedia soon. It can be undone now since it was a disruptive page move in first place. >>> Extorc.talk 16:42, 11 August 2022 (UTC)
- 2016–17 Old Dominion Monarchs basketball team (currently a redirect to 2016–17 Old Dominion Monarchs men's basketball team) → 2016–17 Old Dominion Monarchs men's basketball team (move · discuss) – See discussion here. I'm gonna just IAR a little bit and request this as a noncontroversial technical move since the other years have already been mvoed and I would have done the same thing if the user had pointed this out to me. Administrator needed
- Template:Google → Template:Google search (move · discuss) – for further clarification. PK2 (talk) 06:41, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
- Not necessarily opposed to this, but what exactly would this clarify? SkyWarrior 14:42, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
- I suppose it would clarify that the template is for a Google web search (see Google Search), rather than for some other purpose related to Google, which is a company whose activities are not limited to web searching. To me that seems reasonable. — BarrelProof (talk) 16:41, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
- That's exactly right. I agree with the user above me. -- PK2 (talk) 08:03, 9 August 2022 (UTC)

Contested technical requests
- Beauregard-Keyes House → BK Historic House and Gardens (move · discuss) – Business has changed name. Cpfountain (talk) 18:14, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Cpfountain any sources for the name change? – robertsky (talk) 19:02, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
- https://www.bkhouse.org/ I am also the Assistant Director of the museum. Cpfountain (talk) 19:04, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Cpfountain Hmm... I will let another editor who is hopefully more US-centric to assess this. Google search is throwing out a lot more irrelevant results with the changed name. Also, thanks for the declaration that you are connected to the museuem. – robertsky (talk) 19:13, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
- Are there independant sources referring to the new name as per WP:COMMONNAME? -Kj cheetham (talk) 21:53, 9 August 2022 (UTC)

- Highly unlikely that this name is going to be the common name, especially as it's primarily notable for being on the NRHP. Looks like pure branding so needs discussion. -- Necrothesp (talk) 10:07, 10 August 2022 (UTC)

- Lorraine cycle → Lorraine Cycle (currently a redirect back to Lorraine cycle) (move · discuss) – Should probably follow the same naming customs as the Crusade Cycle, as per https://www.oxfordreference.com/view/10.1093/oi/authority.20110803095651205 Saksapoiss (talk) 17:22, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
- The Ngrams suggest that the uncapitalized version is more common, so I don't think that it's "consistently capitalized in a substantial majority of independent, reliable sources" (unlike Crusade Cycle, which sources generally do capitalize). Extraordinary Writ (talk) 20:35, 8 August 2022 (UTC)

- Né (river) → Né (currently a redirect instead to Birth name) (move · discuss) – parentheses are unnecessary as no other page has that exact title The Midnite Wolf (talk) 18:44, 10 August 2022 (UTC)
- I think the French word is clearly the primary topic, so the status quo (a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT to Birth name#Maiden and married names) seems fine; perhaps a hatnote mentioning the river can be added to the target page. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 21:53, 10 August 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose speedy move "Né" and "née" are English words borrowed from French (like hors d'oeuvres, or fiancée) so it would not be the river that is the primary topic, rather birth name is -- 64.229.88.43 (talk) 05:04, 11 August 2022 (UTC)

- Nila Devi (currently a redirect to Niladevi) → Niladevi (move · discuss) – The name of the goddess is not, in fact, two separate words. https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/niladevi Chronikhiles (talk) 10:20, 10 August 2022 (UTC)
- Chronikhiles Why is an admin needed for this? I also note it recently moved the other way: https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&logid=134956052 - is this a request to revert an undiscussed move? -Kj cheetham (talk) 10:46, 10 August 2022 (UTC)
- Contesting. Chronikhiles's bold move on 28 June was reverted on 9 August, so the request is controversial and the page should stay at the long-time stable title, Nila Devi, pending a full RM discussion. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 21:57, 10 August 2022 (UTC)

- Mick Lynch (trade unionist) → Mick Lynch (currently a redirect instead to Michael Lynch) (move · discuss) – Mick Lynch page, is a redirect, unwanted naming conventions Panda619 (talk) 20:50, 10 August 2022 (UTC)
- The provide rationale is incoherent. There are also Mick Lynch (footballer) and Mick Lynch (musician), to name two. — BarrelProof (talk) 22:31, 10 August 2022 (UTC)
