Expansion

I would suggest that any expansion of this article should be quite modest. We already have several articles on the history of the iron industry, which have often been expanded in an unplanned and even contradictory way.

It may be better to remove the list of named ironworks and the reference to the first in America (which was extremely short-lived anyway), leaving a brief article with cross-references to others. However before I do this I would like comments. Peterkingiron 17:55, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have followed up my suggestion above by converting this article essentially into a list of processes, most of which already have their own articles. It is now largely a list of iron and steel making processes. I have left the list of notable ironworks (sorting it by country), but have removed Eagle Ironworks in Jericho, Oxford, England. This may be notable enough to have an article, but it appears to be a rather ordinary foundry such as existed in many large towns in the 19th century.
I have also removed the expand and globalise tags, as I do not think these apply following what I have done. Peterkingiron 23:14, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Scope of article

This article is intended to be little more than a disambiguation page. I have just reverted a well-meaning attempt to expand the description of puddling, which listed Benry Cort as a kind of ironworks! If you disagree, with my policy (as the creator of most of the present content, please give your reasons here, before amending the article. Peterkingiron 23:22, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
