The North Eastern Railway D Class (later London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) H1 Class) was a class of 4-4-4T three-cylinder side tank steam locomotive designed by Vincent Raven in 1913.[1] They were used for rural passenger services. Forty-five were built in total. The first batch of twenty was outshopped between October 1913 and April 1914 (Nos. 2143 to 2162). After World War I, a further twenty-five locomotives were built. These consisted of eight members outshopped between May and June 1920, twelve between June to December 1921, three between February and March 1922, and two between May 1922 (1522 and 1530).[2]

Between 1931 and 1936, all of the LNER H1 class were rebuilt with a 4-6-2T wheel layout and re-classified as A8.[3] They were scrapped between 1957 and 1960.[3]
