Workers' Front (Spanish: Frente Obrero, FO) is a Spanish political party. The party was founded as a mass organisation of the anti-revisionist communist Marxist–Leninist Party (Communist Reconstruction) (PML (RC)) in 2018 and registered as a separate political party in March 2019.
History
The Workers' Front was established on October 14, 2018, at the Ateneo de Madrid as a front organization of the PML (RC).[1] During the event, various representatives from the organizations that make up the front spoke, with the Secretary of the PML (RC), Roberto Vaquero, concluding the speeches.
Subsequently, the Workers' Front expanded to several cities in Spain, such as La Coruña, León, Ponferrada, Zaragoza, and Cádiz.[2]
On June 12, 2022, their first congress was held. During the congress the decision to become a political party was approved by the members. Representatives from other organizations, such as the Polisario Front, spoke during the congress.[3]
Ideology
Despite being strongly connected with the PML (RC), the FO is not explicitely communist. Their political ideology is a syncretic combination of leftwing economic positions and conservative social viewpoints.[4]
In their program A Spain for the Workers, they defend national sovereignty, Hispanic identity, free university education, the nationalization of strategic economic sectors, energy sovereignty, nuclear energy, increasing the minimum wage, supporting the rural sector, promoting birth rates, creating more public housing, introducing rent control and limiting immigration to prevent the formation of ghettos.[5]
They oppose vulture funds, positive discrimination, surrogacy, the European Union, NATO, capitalism, feminism, deindustrialization, queer ideology, the Trans Law, cosmopolitanism, postmodernism, and political correctness.[5]
Criticisms
The FO is criticized by other left-wing parties as transphobic, reactionary and racist and compared (negatively) to radical right party Vox.[6][7]
Elections
The FO participated in elections for the first time in 2023. The party participated in the municipal elections in four municipalities, namely Villalba de los Arcos, Santa Margalida, Mislata, and Mandayona, winning one seat in Mandayona. The FO is contesting the 2023 general election, fielding candidates in all 50 constituencies.[8]
