Lisa Jane Vanderpump[1] (born 15 September 1960)[2] is an English television personality. She is a cast member and one of the longest-running executive producers on Vanderpump Rules.[3]

Vanderpump and her husband, Ken Todd, have owned 36[4] restaurants, bars, and clubs across the United Kingdom and the United States.

Early life

Lisa Jane Vanderpump[1] was born in Dulwich, London,[5] on 15 September 1960,[2] the youngest of two children to Jean,[6] and ad agency art director,[7] John Vanderpump.[8] Her older brother was Mark Vanderpump, a DJ and businessman.[9]

Vanderpump started ballet lessons at the age of three. She attended Riverston School in Lee Green, South London.[7] She was enrolled in the Corona Academy drama school at the age of nine.[10]

Vanderpump had bought herself a flat in Fulham, West London, by the age of 19. She was financially self-sufficient after leaving home, with "just a good education and a kick in the arse."[7]

Career

Vanderpump made her film debut at the age of 13, as an uncredited extra in the 1973 romantic comedy A Touch of Class. She portrayed Julia Allessio, the daughter of Glenda Jackson's character.[11] Her credited film debut was as Anne in the 1978 horror Killer's Moon.[12]

Vanderpump made her television debut in 1974, with the role of Ursula March as a girl, in the first episode of John Halifax, Gentleman.[13] She had small roles in various episodic television programmes throughout the 1970s, 80s, and 90s.[14]

Vanderpump has been featured in over 100 adverts for brands including Maltesers, Lilt, Britvic 55 and Hamlet cigars.[7]

Vanderpump appears in the music videos for: "Poison Arrow" and "Mantrap" by ABC, "(What) In The Name of Love" by Naked Eyes, and "G.U.Y." by Lady Gaga.[15]

Vanderpump and Todd have accumulated a large and very successful portfolio of restaurants, bars, and clubs since 1995. They sold four of their bars to the Trocadero group in 1998 for £10.5 million. They owned numerous establishments before moving to the United States, including The Shadow Lounge, Bar Soho, a Cheers-themed megabar, and Jewel.[16][14][17][18] They partnered with another husband-and-wife team, Guillermo Zapata and Nathalie Pouille Zapata, to become co-owners of SUR Restaurant & Lounge, in 2005.[19] They opened Villa Blanca in 2009, and closed the establishment in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic.[20] They opened Pump Restaurant in 2014, and closed the establishment in 2023.[21] They partnered with duo Tom Sandoval and Tom Schwartz as co-owners of Tom Tom Restaurant & Bar, in 2018.[22] They opened Vanderpump Cocktail Garden in 2019.[23] They opened Vanderpump à Paris in 2022.[24] They are set to open Wolf by Vanderpump in Winter 2023.[25]

Vanderpump interior designed a first-class charterhire yacht in Sardinia in 2002.[14]

Vanderpump debuted as an original main cast member on Bravo's reality television series, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, on 14 October 2010. She announced her departure from the series on 3 June 2019, after nine seasons.[26]

Vanderpump collaborated with Simon Ourian on the Signature Series by Epione skin care line in 2011.[27]

Vanderpump launched Very Vanderpump, a lifestyle blog, in 2012.[28]

Vanderpump has been a main cast member on a spin-off from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Vanderpump Rules, since the shows inception on 7 January 2013.[29][3] She is also one of the longest-running executive producers of the series, having held the position since the first season.[30][31][32][33][34][35][36][37][38][39]

Vanderpump competed in the 16th season of Dancing with the Stars, partnered with professional dancer Gleb Savchenko, and debuting on 18 March 2013.[40] They were the second couple eliminated, leaving in tenth place on 9 April.[41]

Vanderpump has numerous alcoholic beverages:[42] Vanderpump Sangria and Vanderpump Vodka (2013), and the Vanderpump Wines collection which includes Vanderpump Rosé (2017),[43] Vanderpump Chardonnay and Vanderpump Cabernet (2020).[44]

Vanderpump released the Vanderpump Beverly Hills collection by Pop Culture Promotions in 2014.[45]

Vanderpump was named editor-in-chief of Beverly Hills Lifestyle Magazine in March 2017.[46] She departed her position in October 2018.[47]

Vabderpump served as an executive producer on a spin-off from Vanderpump Rules, Vanderpump Rules: Jax And Brittany Take Kentucky.[48]

Vanderpump partnered with Nick Alain to launch the Vanderpump Alain collection in July 2019.[49]

Vanderpump appeared on E!'s Overserved with Lisa Vanderpump in March 2021. The series focuses on Vanderpump as she hosts celebrity guests and cooks intimate meals.[50] Also in March, she appeared as a judge on ABC's Pooch Perfect. The series was hosted by Rebel Wilson, and featured Jorge Bendersky and Dr. Callie Harris as judges.[51] She was featured in a second spin-off from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Peacock's Vanderpump Dogs, in June. The series focuses on Vanderpump and her staff as they run her dog foundation/rescue centre in Los Angeles, California.[52]

Vanderpump is set to feature in a new show on Hulu, Vanderpump Villa.[53]

Charity work

Vanderpump co-organised a peaceful protest march against the Yulin Dog Meat Festival in 2015, the march went from MacArthur Park to the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles and started a movement to end the abuse, torture and slaughter of dogs worldwide.[54] She co-launched the Stop Yulin Forever campaign. She went on to address Congress about the same issues.[55]

Vanderpump is a co-founder of Vanderpump Dogs.[56] The Vanderpump Dog Foundation was launched online on 29 March 2016.[57] She opened the Vanderpump Dogs rescue center in Los Angeles on 1 March 2017.[58] She also owns and operates two rescue centres in China.[59] Since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the United States, she has raised $383,511.14 through Cameo for her foundation, as of February 2023. Vanderpump Dogs has saved "approximately 3,000 dogs domestically from kill shelters to date", as of February 2023.[60]

Vanderpump served as a producer on The Road To Yulin And Beyond, an awareness documentary, drawing attention to the Yulin Dog Meat Festival's barbaric practice and bring it to an end.[61]

Honours

Vanderpump received the Key to the City of Beverly Hills in March 2013 by the then-mayor Jimmy Delshad, who also declared March 1 as 'Lisa Vanderpump day', in recognition of her charitable and philanthropic work.[62]

Vanderpump was honoured with a Golden Palm Star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars in July 2014.[63]

Vanderpump was named 'Woman of the Year' by the California State Assembly in March 2015.[64]

Vanderpump was the recipient of the Ally Leadership Award from Equality California in August 2015.[65]

Personal life

Vanderpump met her husband, businessman Ken Todd, at his first bar, Cork's Wine Bar, in Kensington, London, in 1982.[14] They got engaged within six weeks and were married on 28 August 1982, at United Reformed Church. They have two children: a daughter, Pandora,[66] and an adopted son, Max.[67][68] She has one stepson from her husband's first marriage.[69] She has one grandchild from her daughter.[70]

Vanderpump is Dutch in origin, however, for the last six generations the Vanderpump's have been thoroughly English. Speaking on her surname, she said: "I'm not sure if the name has been a help or a hindrance, professionally, but I supposed that once you've heard it, you remember it."[71]

Vanderpump currently resides in Beverly Hills, California. She has lived in London, Cheltenham, Monaco, and the South of France.[14]

Vanderpump sold her Beverly Park home in 2011 for $18.8 million[72] and bought a $12 million estate, Villa Rosa, in the Beverly Crest neighbourhood.[73]
