Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Queen of Hearts (talk | contribs) at 03:27, 31 October 2023 (Handled 3 requests: Removed List of cities in Scotland, Slater Mill Historic Site, Modified Scheme of Elementary education 1953 as completed (via script)). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."

  • To list a technical request: edit the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
    {{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}

    This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
  • If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
  • If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.

They are mostly mentioned as Španje or Španji in scholarship, hence my revert. Besise, the Albanian origin has only been put forward by some researchers, not all, so I've reworked the page to take that into account. Krisitor (talk) 09:50, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Unless you can provide us with a Slavic family origin, the Albanian naming convention applies here. The article clearly states, with sources, that they were an Albanian tribe, likely related to the Spani family. Kj1595 (talk) 10:00, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
They are not of Slavic origin, they are considered to be an indigenous people of the Balkans who preceded the Slavs, but they were not necessarily Albanians. I have updated the article accordingly, please stop your edit war. Krisitor (talk) 10:13, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Scholars Gashi and Sarxhi in their research link them to the noble Spani family. They have practically the same name. You cannot use a slavicized form of a non-slavic family/tribe in the English wikipedia. You just claimed they were not slavic yet you use a slavicized form of their name? Explain the logic. Copy-pasting what I said on the ANI: Španje is the name which is used in scholarship, nothing more, check Google Books for Španje [1] and you will find several English sources related to the people in question, whereas "Shpani" mostly points to Albanian sources related to the Spani family [2] Krisitor (talk) 11:06, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Kj1595 and Krisitor: this is not a legitimate request to revert an undiscussed move, since the current title Španje was the long-term title until the move war that took place this morning. As such, this is a simple controversial move request, and you should initiate an RM by hitting the "discuss" button above if you wish to proceed.
