City of South Perth schools template

Sorry again but no, I don't think its notable for two reasons:

  1. Wikipedia is not a directory. You're definitely straying into directory territory here.
  2. Most of the schools are non-notable per WP:SCHOOL and have no place in any encyclopaedia. Aquinas, Wesley and Clontarf but not all of the others. South Perth Primary School is non-notable. A template like this creates an artificial need to start writing articles on non-notable schools.

As a general comment, you need to start actually reading some of these policies and guidelines that myself and others have directed you to. There's no point in asking for advice all the time if you don't make an effort to investigate for yourself. WP:SCHOOL is quite explicit in notability criteria. Considering the time you've been here and the amount of edits you've done to Aquinas, it surprises me you haven't yet done that.

Congratulations on Aquinas's promotion to GA however. You have put a lot of work into it and its improved immensely. Well done. —Moondyne 06:58, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Since you're determined to continue working on articles related to Aquinas, why don't you write an article on Tom Hoad. It is deplorable that we don't have an article on this mighty, old Aquinian, ten times olympian, water polo god. I can guarantee you that it wouldn't be deleted on notability grounds. Would you care to explain your self re this edit [1]? Harro5 is the maintainer of this list and your addition has been removed. —Moondyne 13:05, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

You could easily done Harro5 the courtesy of following the instructions he left in nominating at the talk page. I see he's been back since yesterday and you still haven't made any effort to let him know. Rules are made for a reason Barnzy, not just so you can be bold when it suits you. —Moondyne 13:22, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Well for one thing you would have a proven track record of being a skilled and unbiased editor who understands the inner workings of the wiki. This only comes with experience. Harro5 is a very respected administrator who has been around for a long time. If you want to be more involved there, talk to him. —Moondyne 14:09, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

An editor has nominated Aquinas College Salter Point Campus, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Aquinas College Salter Point Campus and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. How about a Sports at Guildford section?
What did you think of Aurora? Seventy dot 09:59, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
I'm not sure where to go on GGS. What do you think? Obviously I went to school with Aurora - he and I were the only straight-As in our year. Seventy dot 10:30, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
I've seen your comments on Auroranorth's talk page and he's really upset about his block - I'm on MSN with him right now. Seventy dot 10:33, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

As I mentioned in passing in the AfD, you've used this website as a source for the assertion that "The Aquinas College campus (32°1′23.2″S, 115°51′49.6″E) is a 62.4 hectare (160 acre) property with 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) of water frontage along the north bank of the Canning River." As far as I'm able to ascertain, the website doesn't say anything about acreage or frontage; it merely gives an address for the school.

So I pulled Peninsular City off my bookshelf. You've used this source as a references for the assertion that "plans to develop this site [Clune Park] were shelved due to the Great Depression." The only mentions of Aquinas are on page 225 and 297. The only mention of the Christian Brothers is on page 225. There doesn't appear to be any mention of Point Heathcote or Clune Park anywhere. Frankly, I can't see anything here that would support the assertion you've claimed for it.

Furthermore page 297 contains some highly relevant information about the 1960 extension of the campus, with 15 acres of bush cleared to make room for two new football ovals and two new hockey pitches, and plans to construct a chapel near the main building. I find it very hard to believe that you would create an article on Aquinas College Salter Point Campus and not consider this information worth including. Frankly, I now have my doubts whether you've ever laid eyes on Peninsular City.

The campus article will certainly be deleted. I'll give you one week to sort out the references on Aquinas College - prove me wrong by adding a page number to your Peninsular City references. If I'm not satisfied then that the references are legitimate, I'll request a Good Article review. Hesperian 10:50, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Ok, Im not sure how to reference that bit: "(32°1′23.2″S, 115°51′49.6″E)" ive never seen it on a website, but i remember fixing it on te google search, so it was correct, because before it was in the middle of the river - would like having the google page work as a reference? SMBarnZy 10:54, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
The Gazetteer of Australia has an entry for Aquinas College here. You can get a nice reference by using the {{Gazetteer of Australia}} template. Type "{{Gazetteer of Australia | name = Aquinas College | id = 306397}}" and you end up with this:
  • "Aquinas College". Gazetteer of Australia online. Geoscience Australia, Australian Government.
Hesperian 11:02, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
As for Peninsular City, i have decided to remove it as a reference from the article, and rely more heavily on OHG.
I would consider that a tacit admission that you've never clapped eyes on Peninsular City, and you fabricated the citation. Hesperian 11:18, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
Yes, if possible. You should include anything and everything that would help someone else to check your work. That's what references are for, after all. Hesperian 11:20, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
Your student diary is not a reliable third party reference, as it was published by the school for the school.
Page numbers aren't important per se; what's important is that someone who wants to check your work can easily identify the relevant information. OHG is specifically about the school, so it would be reasonable for you to cite the whole book once, without specifying page numbers. Peninsula City merely mentions the school on a couple of pages, so you should provide those page numbers in the citation. Hesperian 11:44, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks - great tips. Can you help with the article in any way? Seventy dot 10:56, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Memorial Oval, Aquinas College

Thanks for your comments at my talk page regarding Notability of various Aquinas College articles.

Specifically regarding the Oval, possibly a better response would have been to source the information you left on my talk page and add it to the article - which has only one source which seems to be truely independant of Aquinas College itself, The Western Cricketer 2003-04.

In it's current state the most notable cricket games the oval is used for seems to be for interstate women's cricket. I am not sure if every ground used for inter-state womens cricket is notable and I would strongly recommend you go along to WP:CRICKET to get some cricket project involvement in improving this specific article.

To be honest - I have to read the article closely to get that information out of it and I didn't notice when I put the "notability" flag on it that it was used for interstate competition. It may be in your interest to get the Western Fury article into a better state too, as it is one of the only non-Aquinas College articles which links to the one regarding the oval.

Clear opinion from AfD discussions including this one regarding Houses at Scotch College, where I argued my own preference to keep the article, show that if you are seperating the subject out then it has to be notable on it's own merits without direct reference back to other related articles. Given your involvement in the Aquinas College series of articles I am a bit suprised to see that you didn't particpate in that AfD, for what seems to be a quite similar school quite close to Aquinas College. Maybe you guys need to talk more to each other with a goal to improving all education articles for WA?

I'd rather see you get each article to be clearly able to assert notability at this stage rather than see you create your full group of articles which someone else brings to a single AfD as "each article fails to show individual notability" - if this was the case the AfD result would probably me "merge to Aquinas College and delete".

I don't have any intention of bringing these articles to AfD. I found your series of articles through bot-reported articles at Wikipedia:New articles (Australia).

Garrie 21:49, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

It seems my intention as stated above was a bit broad. I'm happy with the core set of articles, relating to the school itslef and it's grounds / houses. But you are creating a lot of old-boy articles, and articles for headmasters who don't come anywhere near WP:PROF which I do have problems with and if they aren't improved / userfied I will bulk AfD them (following from the comments and result at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kevin Paull.
Overall, I really have a problem with your heavy use of in-house publications - such as student diaries - as reference material for building a whole closely interlinked web of articles. If the things you are writing about are that notable then someone else has written about them too - and probably, not just an old boy / an old boys' girlfriend / wife / business associate / Old Boy sponsored history PhD student (none of those would be independant of the AC). Garrie 21:42, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Mark Pownall

Surely WA Business News is more notable than it's editor?Garrie 22:32, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Old Boys

Could you please make more effort to showing notability of old boys before creating a stub for them? Please do a little more to build quality not quantity. Each stub should independantly establish notability of the person mentioned. I know you would remove prods from these articles so I will take Kevin Paull for one to AfD. Being headmaster is not notable (see WP:PROF for some guidance). Other than that he was a board member (not the chairman, just a board member) at the Edmund Rice centre. If that is so important, why is the centre not mentioned at Edmund Rice Camps, if that is the same thing the board is not mentioned there and all board members (since 1981) would be equally notable for being on the board of the Edmund Rice centre. Garrie 22:46, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Userfy articles

Some those articles that Garrie is listing are in very poor shape, you can ask to have them Userfied while you work on cleaning them up. Gnangarra 06:50, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Do you know how to do this yourself? Are you happy to do this yourself, or do you want me to do this rather than take them to AfD? Sorry to say but Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kevin Paull was pretty scathing. Especially Heperian's comment leads me to consider a bulk AfD listing for many of the articles. Garrie 21:33, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Starting a project

I think it would be a terrible idea. See Wikipedia:WikiProject reform for discussion on why WikiProjects with less than a thousand or so articles are discouraged. Excessively small ones are very strongly frowned upon.

If you really want to monitor and coordinate edits to PSA article, why don't you seen something up in your user space? I collaborated with User:Ghostieguide on convicts for ages; it wasn't a big enough project to warrant starting up a WikiProject, so we coordinated at User:Hesperian/Notes/Convicts. It worked well.

Hesperian 11:42, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Uh, I don't think people would much like that idea. Not being a "real" WikiProject, I think it would be better if you approached editors directly, rather than advertising for them on talk pages. None of the convict pages contain any boxes pointing back to my user space - when I saw an user contributing to convict articles, I would let them know of the page and tell them to feel free to edit it. Hesperian 12:15, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
No thanks, I've got enough projects to keep me out of trouble for a while, but if need a any help just ask. Gnangarra 14:22, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
I'm pretty busy at the moment but I would be happy to help out where I can when I have time (eg proofreading, that sort of thing). Incidentally, DanielT5 and I are doing the same sort of thing as Hesperian's coordination with articles relating to the Wheatbelt region - it's at User:DanielT5/Wheatbelt Scope. The idea is that we are going to try and improve all of the articles to a given standard, then select some to push forward. That'll probably be my main content contribution to the Wiki for a couple of months until my outside life becomes less hectic. Orderinchaos78 22:41, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for uploading Image:Front Of School.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. —Angr 08:00, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Paul Nunan, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Oo7565 19:38, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

I shouldn't have to ask you for more information here at your own talk page. School ovals aren't notable - ovals where first class cricket is played, are notable. Some of them happen to also be school ovals. That appears to be the case here.

If the oval is notable then someone has written about the oval. Not games played at the oval. Not the school the oval is at. But the oval itself. The same applies to the past principles etc.

It may well be that this writing is a chapter / section in a history of cricket / education / the church in Perth / WA / Australia / whatever. But it should not be trivial coverage.

AC is a well established school. But trying to use it's own publications to assert how important the school, its facilities and it's staff are, does not fit in with WP:BIO or WP:SCHOOL at all. Garrie 03:04, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

PSA Page

For your info, I saw that table layout at several articles, including Combined Associated Schools, Independent Schools Association and GPS Schools, Sydney equivalents to PSA.

On a separate but related matter, are you aware of Category:Associations of schools? It appears that some reorganisation into geographical sub-categories (including, say Category:Australian schools associations) might be useful. What do you think? —Moondyne 03:17, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

I suggest you tag it with {{Db-reason}}, noting the copyvio issue (Wikipedia:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion#G12) as well as it being a fork of the main AC article. Someone should zap it fairly quickly. First party refs

All us admins are taking turns answering each other's messages this morning. :P Some first party refs for totally uncontroversial stuff is fine (e.g. the fees, for which this might well be the only source of information), but the key article *must* be independently referenced. Also beware of WP:SYN when using a mix of primary and secondary references - a trap that's easy for all of us to fall into. Orderinchaos 05:01, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
