Goranboy (also, Geran’boy, Geranboi, Kasum-Ismailov, Kasum-Ismailovo, Kasum-Izmaylovo, and Qasym Ismayylov) is the capital city of the Goranboy District of Azerbaijan. The municipality consists of the city of Goranboy and the nearby villages of Qarasüleymanlı, Şahməmmədli, İrəvanlı, and Şurakənd.[2] Vougar Aslanov, a journalist, is from Goranboy.
Goranboy was a place where ancient people lived and settled. Basically, this has been proven by historical research and archaeological research conducted in modern times. In addition, materials and evidence that have reached our modern times prove this. It was part of the Ganja Khanate in the Middle Ages. Later, the historical name of Goranboy became Goranboy-Ahmedli in the documents. In 1938, the name of the settlement was changed to Gasim Ismayilov. In 1966, it was given the status of a city. In 1991, the historical name of the city and region was returned to them
