Anna Maria Chiuri (born October 3, 1968 in San Candido, Bolzano, Italy) is an Italian mezzo-soprano opera singer known for her performances in major opera houses and collaborations with conductors. Her repertoire includes roles from the works of Verdi, Wagner, Strauss, and Puccini.[1]
Early life and education
Chiuri was born in San Candido, Bolzano, on October 3, 1968.[1] She studied at the Conservatorio Arrigo Boito in Parma, where she was trained by Soprano Jenny Anvelt. She later refined her technique with tenor Franco Corelli.[2]
Career
Chiuri has performed in leading opera houses, including Teatro alla Scala, Arena di Verona, Salzburg Festival, Opéra Royal de Wallonie, and the National Centre for the Performing Arts.[2][3] Her roles have included Amneris in Aida, Eboli in Don Carlos, Azucena in Il Trovatore, Herodias in Salome. She has worked with conductors such as Riccardo Chailly, Gianandrea Noseda, and Fabio Luisi.[3]
Chiuri has performed in concert settings, including:
- Alexander Nevsky by Prokofiev at the Stresa Festival.[2]
- Mahler's Second Symphony in Turin, conducted by Gianandrea Noseda.[2]
- International tours at venues such as Carnegie Hall and Edinburgh Festival.[2]
Awards
In 2012, Chiuri received the Franco Abbiati Prize for her performance as Herodias in Salome.[4]
