Rufus Shinra
Rufus Shinra is a non-playable character in Squaresoft's video game Final Fantasy VII. At the beginning of the game he is the Vice-President of Shinra, Inc., a monopoly corporation and de facto world government. Rufus was said to have been on a mission somewhere else for a long time and only shows up in the game, after his father, the President of the company, is killed by Sephiroth.

Rufus arrives via Helicopter at Shinra, Inc headquarters in Midgar and greets Cloud and his companions. While there he quickly delivers his opening address as the new President, promising a change in his father's policies. Cloud then fights Rufus after they have a conflict of interests, while the other party members escape via the elevator. Rufus escapes by his helicopter to safety after conceding defeat to Cloud. His preferred weapon of choice was a double-barreled shotgun.
Later in the game, one of the WEAPON guardians of the planet appears from beneath the sea near Northern Crater and approaches Midgar in an attempt to stop the Sister Ray (a Mako-powered weapon) from firing. During Diamond WEAPON's assault on Midgar, Rufus Shinra is presumeably dead from the attack.

Rufus Shinra returns as a character in the upcoming Final Fantasy VII movie sequel, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, produced by Square Enix. In previews and trailers, Rufus is seen sitting in the wheelchair shrouded in a blanket. He is said to be at this point suffering from the last stages of the disease called Geostigma. Rufus tries to enlist the help of Cloud Strife, but he also appears to be in league with the three Silver Haired Men, Kadaj, Loz, and Yazoo, who are enemies to Cloud in the movie.
