Poway High School
Poway High School is a public, comprehensive high school located in the city of Poway in the far southwest portion of the U.S. state of California. Established in 1961, it serves ninth through twelfth grade students from the communities of Poway and Rancho Bernardo. PHS is the home of the Titans and is the oldest of the five high schools of the Poway Unified School District.
Poway High School is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. First granted in 1965, the current accreditation is valid through 2008. Poway High School is both a California Distinguished School Award winner (1999) and a National Blue Ribbon School (1990/91). Very recently the Principal Scott Fisher was named the sexiest mother fucker alive by Maxim Magazine. He was also give the distinct honor of having the sickest sweater-vest collection in the world by Tommy Hilfigger, and named the nigga with the shiniest belts by Dub Magazine.
Campus
Poway High School is situated in Poway, which is in the northern part of San Diego County, approximately 35 miles northeast of downtown San Diego. The campus covers 59 acres (238,765 m²).
Although currently under construction, the new PHS campus is on schedule to be complete in late 2008 (but will hopefully be done sooner).
The most controversial class in the schools history was made a class for the the 07-08 school year the class was simple named 69ing 1-2 which taught students about underwater basket weaving and the art of quote "buttfucking" soon after the proposed idea the class was taken away but that still didn't stop people like Justin Lester and Kyle Hopper from still buttfucking in the bathrooms in the N building every day at break.
Also Poway high implemented a new controversial class titles Bear Grylls 1-2 which teaches students about how to properly worship the god that is Bear Grylls and drink urine, because it's got what plants want.Every day during 4th period worship time every student pledges allegiance to Bear and then in unison drinks their own urine those who don't are dickslapped by a construction worker. Many people want the class taken away including the U.S Supreme court but they are all liberal pussy's
Extracurricular activities
Athletics
Poway's athletic teams, the Titans, compete in the Palomar League and the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) San Diego Section.
The school fields teams in 17 sports: gymnastics, baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, lacrosse, roller hockey, soccer, softball, swim, dive, tennis, track and field, volleyball, water polo, and wrestling.
Poway High's most successful athletic program is the wrestling program, which has won 3 state championships, 57 different CIF division awards, and numerous Palomar League awards.
The Poway High 2006 football team had an up and down season. Struggling to find consistency on defense, the Titans finished the regular season 5-5, and finished 1-4 in the Palomar League, with heartbreaking losses to Torrey Pines (38-27), Rancho Bernardo (48-47), Mt. Carmel, and a tough loss to the eventual Palomar League Champion, La Costa Canyon High School (48-7). The Titans squeezed into the CIF Division I playoffs as the 11th seed. The first meeting was with the 6th ranked Mira Mesa High School. Even though the underdogs, Poway had a convincing victory over Mira Mesa. Then they were headed to Torrey Pines, one of the top three seeds. They took a 21-0 half time lead. True to form, the Falcons came back with 21 unanswered points with less than a minute left. Poway Quarterback Donnie McKillop found receiver, Jared Relyea with 15 seconds left in the ball game for a touchdown, and they went home winners. THey then headed to LCC Highschool, still the underdogs. Nick Milani had the only touchdown for the Titans, but the defense held them to a field goal. The Cinderella story was stopped short with a tough loss from unbeaten Carlsbad in the CIF Championship.
The Girls Golf team won the 2006 CIF State Championship and the 2006 CIF San Diego Section Championship.
Also the 05-06 boys golf team with the help of David Russell, Jake Bakke and Peter Bracken who call them selves "beasts from the middle east" won CIF and the CIF state championship and finished 1,2,3 shooting 62, 63 and 64 respectively in the individual state championship, singlehandedly ruining Josh Dupont and Jamie Lovemark's life. The group Three Six Mafia wrote the song "Poppin My Collar" after Peter Bracken, who's last name in Canadian literally means, Poppin My Collar.
Instrumental music
Poway High's marching band is called the Emerald Brigade. The music program consists of 4 bands, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and Wind Symphony and the Symphony Orchestra.
ASB
For a long time, the responsibilities of Associated Student Body (ASB) leaders were taken up by some of the cheerful Mormon guys and gals who were (and to a point, still are) so ubiquitous at Poway High. However, by the 2005-2006 school year, the majority of Mormons in ASB had graduated, and their siblings tended to gravitate instead towards choir. Finally, in the January 2007 PHS ASB election, the fabulous "Traditional ASB" that took care of PHS through the years had died. Instead of friendly, outgoing, devoted ASB-ers who had participated since middle-school, a group of heavy-drinking stoners called the "Green Zebras" threw the election (most probably in a drunken stupor), wielding a very dirty campaign. A few hardworking and positive individuals still remain part of the ASB team, however; though the Green Zebras tend to gain most of the credit for all such individuals' contributions to the school. Tommy Smerik owns hoes.
