Eddie "Piolín" Sotelo
Eddie "Piolín" Sotelo is a Mexican citizen and Naturalized American Citizen, who currently resides in Los Angeles where he has the most popular morning radio show that is broadcast in Spanish. The show covers topics as widespread as politics, music, immigration advice, religion and humor. [1]
Sotelo was born in 1972 in the city of Ocotlán, in the Jalisco municipality of Mexico.
On the heels of Ronald Reagan's Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, Sotelo entered The United States of America in 1988 by illegally crossing the United States border.
Sotelo gained employment by using a counterfeit Green card[2].
On his popular morning radio show, Sotelo encourages other South American nationals to violate the immigration laws of The United States of America by living in The United States of America without proper documentation, as he did. He also encourages undocumented workers to support immigration reform and to apply for citizenship. [3]
His show, "Piolín por la Mañana," currently runs weekday mornings on KSCA in Southern California. His nickname means "Tweety Bird" in Spanish, a nickname he acquired as a child.[4] The LA Times ranks Sotelo amongst the 100 most powerful people in Southern California. His show is the most popular morning radio show in Los Angeles among non-English speaking listeners.
The show is broadcast in Spanish for a Spanish-speaking audience. [5]
In 2005 Sotelo gave illegal alien supporters four hours on his program when the United States Congress threatened to enforce immigration laws.
In 2006 Soleto used his morning radio show to encourage illegal aliens to demand amnesty by marching in the streets in large numbers. [6][7][8][9][10] Sotelo's support of the illegal alien protests in 2006 is often credited as the main reason for their enormous turnout.
In 2007 Sotelo actively supported the deported, twice convicted, illegal alien felon, Elvira Arellano in her attempt to violate her order of deportation.[1]
However, it should also be noted that Eddie "Piolin" Sotelo has also done so much to help people all over the country. Together with his radio station and his staff, Piolin has helped people get scholarships, has given away wheelchairs, has reunited families, has had several events to collect toys for needy children during the holidays. Piolin Sotelo is a very giving person that loves to help others and loves to teach others that they need to be there for one another in whatever is possible.
To give just one example of the many, many things he has done to help people, Piolin along with the help of a local furniture store fully furnished an apartment for a woman and her 5-year old daughter who had just recently had a separation from her husband and was battling leukemia. The woman lived in a homeless shelter for a while with her daughter, but was later able to get an apartment. With nothing but a few zippy cups and plates to feed her daughter, she invited an old co-worker to her home for a "taco." She didnt have one piece of furniture in her home, but still felt that generosity to invite an old friend to her home because where there's enough for two, there's enough for three. When the friend saw her situation, she told Piolin about it, and he was quick to act furnishing her entire apartment and making sure she had everythingshe needed. He made sure first and foremost to provide a bed, bedroom set, blankets and all for the child, then proceeded to furnish the woman's bedroom, living room, dining room, everything else. Needless to say the woman was overwhelmed with his generosity and his faithful listeners were truly touched and reminded that when someone is in need, we need to do what we can to help.
