Resistance 2 (working title) is an upcoming science fiction first person shooter video game for the PlayStation 3.[3] It is currently in development by Insomniac Games, and will continue to be published by Sony Computer Entertainment America. The game is scheduled for a European release in November 2008 and a North American release in Fall 2008.[2][1] The game is a sequel to the 2006 launch title Resistance: Fall of Man. The first teaser trailer had its debut on the April 11th edition of GameTrailers TV, which also tells of a trailer featuring gameplay to arrive on June 13th only on GameTrailers.[4] According to the marketing boss of SCE, Scott Steinberg, the game will be put onto a 50 GB Blu-ray Disc.[5] An early gameplay footage showing a 60 person multiplayer match set in the California Redwoods was shown at PlayStation Day 2008.

Plot

The player will face the Chimera once again.

The plot is a continuation of the Resistance: Fall of Man storyline. The game starts with a Black Ops aircraft taking Sgt. Nathan Hale to the base of the Special Projects Research Administration (SPRA) in Iceland. Hale arrives at the base and discovers that there are others like him that are resistant to the Chimera virus who have been collected together from around the world by the SPRA. The result is a task force called 'The Sentinels'. The base then comes under attack by Chimera forces and 'The Sentinels' manage to escape to the United States. Two years after the Chimeran defeat in Great Britain, the Chimera launch a full-scale aerial invasion on both the east and west coasts of the United States.[6]

It has been indicated that the plot of Resistance 2 will follow the role of Sgt. Nathan Hale much more closely, as well as shedding new light onto where the Chimera originated from. [7]

Features

The game will feature two campaigns. A single player campaign which will follow the story of Nathan Hale and a co-operative campaign that will have a storyline running parallel to Hale's campaign. Both campaigns will also include boss-battles. The co-operative campaign will support up to 8 players online or 2 player split screen with classes including a medic class, a heavy weapons class, and a special ops class. The online multiplayer aspect of the game will support up to 60 players online.[8] The game will also feature 12 new Chimeran enemies, one of which will be called the Chameleon.[9][10] Resistance 2 will feature new weapons as well as all of the weapons used in Resistance: Fall of Man, these weapons include a long range semi-automatic rifle called "The Marksman" and a minigun that has the special ability to act as a sentry gun.[11][12]
