The Liverpool Sound is a one-off musical concert to celebrate Liverpool being European Capital of Culture in 2008. Billed as a once in a lifetime event http://www.liverpool08.com/music/LiverpoolSound/index.asp it had just two artists confirmed to its lineup 10 days prior to the event. The current artists hail from all round the M62 (McCartney from Liverpool and the Kaiser Chiefs from Leeds) Other artists rumoured include Sonya, and that lad off X factor.

Tickets are still on sale for this once in a lifetime opportunity via - http://www.liverpool08.com just 10 days before the event.

The event will be held at the Anfield Football Stadium on Sunday, June 1st, 2008, in front of 35,000 people. The concert will be headlined by Sir Paul McCartney and his band. Sir Paul said: "I'm very excited about Liverpool being the European Capital of Culture in 2008. We have a fantastic series of events which are sure to get you excited too. I'm very proud of the city and I look forward to welcoming you all and showing you a good time. Its going to be a great year." [1] The concert will also feature, live on stage, high profile musicians from around the world (to be announced). Millions of viewers will also be able to see the event on television and online as it will be broadcast live across the world.

Organisers had hoped to stage the event at the historic Salthouse Dock, which would have been drained in order to create a “floating” stage. However, following a £200,000 risk assessment the idea was scrapped due to concerns over health and safety and the reported £8 million cost to stage the event.[2]

Kaiser Chiefs are confirmed to play alongside Sir Paul McCartney at The Liverpool Sound on June 1 at Anfield.

Further names for the June 1 concert at Anfield are to be announced in the coming weeks, including a very special international superstar guest.

And after finalising a review of the stadium capacity, the Liverpool Culture Company is putting just over 4,000 new tickets on sale to the general public. Tickets will be available via www.liverpool08.com on a first come, first served basis. Tickets are available across all price categories: £35, £55 and £75 (plus booking and transaction fees).

In addition, a special allocation of 500 tickets will be reserved for community groups, schools and charities based in Anfield and Breckfield who can apply to purchase one pair of £75 tickets each. Successful applicants will be allowed to auction or raffle the tickets to raise funds for their organisation .

An initial 27,500 tickets for The Liverpool Sound were sold via a special ballot launched in September 2007. The new tickets mean that the total capacity for the concert – the last to be held at Liverpool FC’s iconic Anfield ground before the club moves to nearby Stanley Park – is nearly 36,000.

For those who aren’t lucky enough to get tickets, BBC2 will be televising highlights from the concert on the evening of the show. BBC Radio 2 will also be covering the event - further details will be announced nearer the date.
