Steven Macon Greer (June 28, 1955) is an American physician, UFO enthusiast and researcher, and conspiracy theorist. Greer is the founder of the Disclosure Project, The Orion Project, and the Advanced Energy Research Organization (AERO) [1]. The latter aims to reproduce claimed free energy devices Greer says were produced in secret government projects.
The Orion Project, launched in March 2008 by Greer, is a non-profit, 501-C3 entity. The project's stated mission is to inform, educate, and help supply the people of earth with sustainable, non-polluting power, and "transform the current energy, environmental and social crisis into a world of sustainability and Enlightened Abundance."[2] The Orion Project claims to be in the process of identifying and supporting the development of new, clean energy technologies[3] which will not be dependent on fossil fuels. The project claims that once a robust, working prototype is completed, the technology would then be licensed for commercial manufacture and/or gifted as appropriate to regions of the world unable to afford the new technologies.[4]
Greer is also a claimed contactee, and coined the term "close encounter of the fifth kind" (a.k.a. CE5) to describe ongoing contact with extraterrestrials.[5] CE5 encounters are "characterized by mutual, bilateral communication rather than unilateral contact."[6]
Greer is a former chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Lenoir, North Carolina, and a lifetime member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.[7] He and his wife Emily have four daughters and reside in the Charlottesville, Virginia area. [7]
Commercial activities
In addition to the Disclosure Project, Greer hosts 'Ambassador to the Universe' training sessions at various locations around the United States. Influenced by Transcendental Meditation, Greer promises to teach mediation techniques that allow attendees to 'psychically contact aliens' and summon aliens and their craft at will. The cost for these programs is $995, which includes various books by Greer[8]. Both Greer and some of his students have provided evidence of success in the form of photos and videos which can be downloaded in the cseti member section.
Greer's non-hostile approach to contacting ET's has been the cause of ridicule in the past. Greer claims that some interests require a fear-based alien view for political and corporate gain. Greer addresses the subject of different interests on the UFO subject in various talks like: ET talk

Greer's interest in ufology dates to childhood, when he claims he saw a 'disc-shaped craft'. In 1993, Greer founded the Disclosure Project, which claims a wide-ranging conspiracy by the governments of the United States and other nations to cover up visits by UFO aliens and continued monitoring by these extraterrestrial beings, and to suppress unspecified extraterrestrial technologies, including free energy (see free energy suppression).
Greer, with the assistance of other claimed 'contactees', who have been selected for previous military or government employment, has given numerous speeches and interviews at ufology conferences and other venues, attempting to muster support for 'free and open' Congressional hearings on UFOs, 'extraterrestrial visitation', and other aspects of the alleged conspiracy. The Disclosure Project has obtained support from various individuals within the so called 'covert programs' who support Greer's view to end UFO secrecy.
