Sarge is a codename for the Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 distribution. It was named after Sarge character from Toy Story animation film. Sarge went from testing to stable on June 6th 2005, after Woody became the Debian release to stay the stable release for the longest period of time.

Sarge can be installed using debian-installer, a new and easier installation routine, with integrated hardware detection and X configuration. Post configuration has also been made easier, through integration of debconf tool in to most of the existing packages.

Packages in the distribution include:

Hardware architectures

At the moment of release, sarge was available for 11 architectures, the same ones woody (Debian 3.0 version) was available for:

On June 9th 2005, three days after the release, the port of sarge to AMD64 architecture was also declared stable. This was the first release of Debian on AMD64, although an unofficial one.
