The Spanish poet Carlos Barral (1928-1989) was (with Jaime Gil de Biedma) one of the greatest poets of the so-called "generation of the 50´s". He was born in Barcelona, Spain in 1928. Besides being a poet, he was also a member of the European Parliament.

He is best known for his two poetry books Metropolitano, 19 historias de mi guerra civil ("Metropolitan, 19 histories of my civil war") and Lecciones de cosas ("Lessons of things"), but his three volumes of memoirs are also well-thought-of. . He also created the publishing House Seix Barral, the most prestigious in the 1960's and thereafter.
