How does it go, ride, boldly ride, if you seek for El dorado. Off2riorob (talk) 19:34, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Eldorado

Gaily bedight, A gallant knight

In sunshine and in shadow, Had journeyed long, Singing a song, 'In search of Eldorado.

But he grew old- This knight so bold- And o'er his heart a shadow Fell as he found No spot of ground That looked like Eldorado.

And, as his strength Failed him at length, He met a pilgrim shadow- "Shadow," said he, "Where can it be- This land of Eldorado?"

"Over the Mountains Of the Moon, Down the Valley of the Shadow, Ride, boldly ride," The shade replied- "If you seek for Eldorado!"

Thanks

Seeing as all of the talk has thus far been on my own talkpage. I just wished to thank you on your own talkpage for bringing my attention to the hoax issue. A very serious issue for wikipedia even though some editors may not have initially realised, including myself. I think I will re-add Arthur de Rothschild at some point soon because he was obviously notable and a good, if minor, addition to the project. But you were right in following the leads you had. Polargeo (talk) 12:04, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It was quite exciting, a fantastic hoax. I didn't Know Arthur got deleted in the mellee, he was at least real and quite a noted member of the family, lets get him replaced. Thanks to you for taking the time (and belief) to look deeper into it. Off2riorob (talk) 19:40, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Another significant Rothschild missing from Wikipedia is Maurice (c. 1881-1957), son of Edmond. He was a minor politician involved in a bribery scandal, considered a wastrel, and later in life made his own large fortune trading in commodities and stocks after he fled from Europe.Benf64 (talk) 03:52, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome, I guess. Kind of funny (pretending to be nobility, for the recognition and standing, is such a quaint mischief), kind of sad. Benf64 (talk) 03:23, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rothschild hoax

Change of subject: the real Rothschilds have acted swiftly. All Stefan's fake sites have been taken down, and he has been taken off the Huffington Post both as de Rothschild and as Roberts, and off Twitter. No wine yet, though. Cheers, JohnCD (talk) 11:07, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

...and he is now getting more internet publicity than perhaps even he wants. JohnCD (talk) 13:17, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, that is a development, perhaps the New York times will be commenting as they also had a two and a half million pledge to Haiti from the fictitious company Rothschild Estates in their paper, they were also scammed. Hi. Remember this lady, who you have been keeping in your cellar for a couple of months? When I closed her AfD as delete, I said I would undelete her on request if she was elected on 20 Mar; then I told you I might be away then and asked you to take charge. It turns out that I shall not be away after all, so I will look after letting her out if necessary. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 21:30, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes thanks John, I was looking at her the other day and did a google to see what was new but nothing much was showing as yet, regards. Off2riorob (talk) 21:31, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I see her supporters have moved her article back into the mainspace, though according to South Australian state election, 2010 she has not in fact been elected. I will wait a day or so for the final results, but unless she has in fact been elected I shall delete her again per G4, as the only claimed notability at the AfD was that she was "virtually guaranteed" a seat. Anyone who wants the article back will have to go through DRV. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 10:44, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

will hanrahan

Many thanks for your supportive and understanding notes re the vandalism of the Will Hanrahan page. If, when googling and discovering the wiki reference, the insulting reference originally placed by the 'vandal' was not present, I would be happy for the page to stay.

The vandal's comments were designed to be hurtful, not factual, included one very damaging comment which is a simple, clear libel and very wicked, and were not a contribution to the excellent Wikipedia that anyone can be proud of. The comment in question, in my opinion, constitutes harassment and I have to inform the police.

I would prefer that the page was locked indefinitely and whatever 'accelerator' method the vandal is using to retain 'blink and you'd miss him' in the google description of the wikipedia page somehow be removed.

Regards.Willhanrahan (talk) 11:57, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, have you considered identifying yourself to the OTRS team, that way your comments would be more authoritative, it you want I can give you a link, also if is better to ask experienced editors for help than to bring up legal issues as that is a wikipedia no no and will get you restricted from editing, please take care with that, John is very experienced and a good person to ask questions. Regards. Off2riorob (talk) 12:02, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello offtorio! I am Will Hanrahan and this has been confirmed by the issue of a ticket number by moonriddengirl. The page about me was heavily vandalised last week and my attention was drawn to it. Hitherto, I was only vaguely aware of it. I have tried to correct one or two factual mistakes and have removed comments attriuted to me. I have also toned down the personal nature of it. If it has to be there, I would prefer it to stick to facts. A couple of points re. your own rather excellent input. I did, indeed, work on the Bootle Times from 1977 to 1980. Secondly, Trexx and Flipside is a narrative situation comedy and is, as such, the only one in the BBC's library of programming. The BBC HAS featured black people in its comedies, but there had never until 'T and F.' been such a strong representation of Black people. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Willhanrahan (talkcontribs) 11:27, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Quick look, it is not very readable, two much legal jargon and attempts to push this and that position which adds only confusion, I will have a look laterin a bit more depth. Off2riorob (talk) 14:48, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, the article is a real mess. I've been trying [for more than a few months] to clean up after both sides, but after a while, you just don't feel able to. Most sources on both sides of the spectrum are primary, and it also appears that the lead editor of the article is also the "official" biographer of the subject (read something to that effect on the talk page I think). —SpacemanSpiff 15:34, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, thank you for pointing that out for me, I have quite recently been involved in a few good article nominations and keeps and have always been requested and required to add the alt. I will take that on board. Off2riorob (talk) 22:46, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No problem (if someone's been demanding it at GAC, give them a good trouting, as it's never been a GAC requirement). If you want to feel yourself gradually losing the will to live, you can see the foul-tempered arguments that led to WP:ALT being foisted on FAC as a requirement and then a few months later being unceremoniously removed, at this 350kb discussion, which was impressively foul-tempered even by WT:FAC's low standards. – iridescent 22:51, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I just went over the talk page, and I'm afraid that I despair: there is no goodwill, no agreement on in what respects the present article is deficient, and no consensus on where it should go. I'd like to be able to endorse your plan to use the PR as a roadmap, but I just can't see that happening. I'm of the view that the Wikipedia model does not really work for controversial articles, and I fear that the BNP article is in the process of proving me right. Sorry to be all doom and gloom-like. Steve Smith (talk) 23:43, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your intelligent comments in a site that seems frequently devoid of intelligence.

And, I really mean it. You have identified one of many obvious examples of extreme over-reaction by what I call 'the cabal'. Am I violating WP rules? Perhaps, but I see a larger issue. If there are too many POV-pushers around, it's very hard to dislodge them. (I didn't write that: It's on the WP:BLP discussion page.) Gogo Dodo showed up many times, starting at JDB's arrival at 'jim bell', did nothing but revert Bell's edits Then, Gogo Dodo inexplicably disappeared. As if he had been called to do a job. Notice too that Skomorokh initially reverted some of Keystroke's edits, which had been reasonable, but Skomorokh gave up after that first exchange. The fact that very few people have tried to revert Keystroke, and they did so before they actually challeged him on the talk: page, shows that they can't deny there were POV and BLP violations. 97.120.242.154 (talk) 02:37, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notice that Daedalus969's Jan 17 edit said that Gogo Dodo has been 'polite'. What a laugh! If you look at Dodo's 'contributions' during December 26, 2009-Jan 3, 2010 time frame, he says virtually nothing. "Polite"??? If a person comes up to you, slaps you in the face repeatedly, and then says, "Excuse me, Goodbye", that doesn't qualify as 'polite' does it? Also, notice that Gogo Dodo disappeared (after his Dec 31, 2009 edit) shortly before NeilN magically appeared, on January 3, 2010. Neither Gogo Dodo nor NeilN had edited on "jim bell" even once prior to December 26, 2009. (who he knew was an extreme newbie.) Gogo Dodo NEVER put any comment on the talk: page, even though he knew that Bell was an extreme 'newbie'. (Only editing WP since Dec 26, 2009.) I don't consider it even remotely likely that Gogo Dodo 'just happened to' find my edits first, repeatedly, in front of dozens (hundreds?) of other editors or administrators. NeilN is continuing to conceal the commentary in wp:blpn, in a fashion which has turned into a joke. He doesn't want his actions publicized. These coincidences at least point to Gogo Dodo being a meat-puppet for somebody. Who? When they make that phony claim about how Gogo Dodo was 'polite', please don't believe it! 97.120.246.46 (talk) 04:47, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Peaches

Hello Off2riorob. Following your request on my talk page I have semi'd Peaches Geldof. There was quite enough nonsense going on before, however coincidentally my protection came soon after another development for the article's subject.[3] I am distracted elsewhere currently, so perhaps you could keep an eye on this now that it's hit the main press. In case you are not aware, though I suspect you may be, the Daily Mail is one of the more popular newspapers in the UK, and it could be argued there is enough notability for inclusion of the story and relevant denials. Hopefully the semi should take care of the worst of it, but I don't think this is the last we'll hear of it. Thanks. -- zzuuzz (talk) 20:23, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your attention, better fully protect it if you would for a couple of weeks, they will keep coming and adding it repeatedly, they are like a virus. There appears to be a rising consensus amongst users that the wikipedia is a name calling celeb blog where they can come and add whatever they want to Off2riorob (talk) 20:28, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry

I started an ANI thread and miscalculated that you had breached 3RR when clearly you hadn't. Whatever our arguments over the last 24 hours, I got this badly wrong and I'm sorry about it. I deleted the ANI thread as soon as I realised I'd cocked it up. --Mkativerata (talk) 21:33, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well thank you, your removal edit conflicted my reply which we will never now get to see, forget about it. Off2riorob (talk) 21:35, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Twit

I was just seeking clarification that by referring to a twit, you meant the post. I believe the correct word is "tweet", not "twit" but as I don't use twitter it is possible that both are correct. Mjroots (talk) 02:58, 27 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your note

I agree, but any attempt to remove those claims would likely be reverted if they've been widely enough published, though the sexual assault one is a bit worrying even if reliably published. SlimVirgin TALK contribs 18:51, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
