Onion Lake Cree Nation

Onion Lake is a First Nations Community in the Rural Municipality of Frenchman Butte No. 501, Saskatchewan, and the County of Vermillion River, Alberta, Canada. It is centered at the intersection of Alberta Highway 17, Saskatchewan Highway 17, Alberta Highway 641, and Saskatchewan Highway 797. Named after the nearby lake, Onion Lake is the only reserve to straddle a provincial border.[1] The Makaoo and Seekaskootch reserves have a total land mass of 21,254.6 hectares, and contain approximately 5,000 registered First Nations members.[1] Onion Lake has four schools in the community, one of which, is a Cree Immersion Program.
