Denmark–Nepal relations are foreign relations between Denmark and Nepal. Denmark has an embassy in Kathmandu since 1992. Nepal has a embassy in Copenhagen since 2007.[1][2] Nepal and Denmark established diplomatic relations on 15 December 1967.[3]

History

Denmark has given aid to Nepal since 1990.[3] In 1973, 20 million DKK was assisted for the Economic cooperation. From 1997, Denmark has agreed to provide assistance of 644 million DKK to various development projects.[3]

200 million DKK was given to the education cooperation in 2003.[4] In 2006, Danish Minister for Development Cooperation Ulla Tørnæs visited Nepal.[5] Denmark assisted with 70 million DKK again for education in 2009.[6] Denmark have for 20 years assisted Nepalese families with electricity and renewable energy.[7]

Children Nepal Denmark

Children Nepal Denmark was established in October 2001. The creation was a result of Peer Ortvalds, visit to Nepal in 1999. Inspired by Children Nepal Denmarks methodology, ideology and achievements, Peer Ortvald decided that he would continue to help with disadvantaged children in Nepal since his return to Denmark.[8]

Trade

Trade between Denmark and Nepal is about $2 million per year. Denmarks export to Nepal include food and machinery. Nepal export to Denmark include pashminas and handicrafts.[9]
