Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine (also known as WH40k: Space Marine) is an upcoming third-person action video game developed by Relic Entertainment and published by THQ. It is scheduled to be released for Microsoft Windows,[2] Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in September 2011.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine takes place in Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000 universe.

The gameplay experience of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine focuses on a hybrid shooting and melee combat model. In late March it was announced that Space Marine will feature the chaos faction of Warhammer 40,000.[3]

Plot

Players take the role of Captain Titus, a Space Marine. An ork invasion of an Imperial Forge World; an entire planet covered by factories, responsible for producing weapons and armour for the Imperium of Man. The plot is further revealed that the Warboss leading the ork invasion is attempting to steal and salvage a Warlord class Battle Titan (a walking tank one hundred feet tall), and Captain Titus (the player character) of the Ultramarines Chapter is sent, along with his Company of Space Marines and Imperial Guard, to prevent the Warboss from getting his hands on it.

Characters

  • Captain Titus - The Player Character. He leads the Ultramarines second company in defense of the forgeworld of Graia.
  • Sidonus - An old Space Marine Veteran who serves as Titus' second in command.
  • Leandros - A young Ultramarine Battle-Brother about 75 years old (Considered young on the Space Marine life cycle).
  • Miranda Nero - The commanding officer leading the remaining Imperial Guard regiments.
  • Inquisitor Drogan - A radical inquisitor who's obsession with defending the forgeworld led him to order the forgeworlds scientist's in to opening a portal, which brought about a Chaos War-band to invade the forgeworld.

Gameplay

As of February 20, 2011 details are limited. The player will take control of a single Space Marine, known as Captain Titus. Videos shown at the E3 show an Assault Marine, a Tactical Marine, a Sergeant and a Devastator Marine, though these are old trailers and gameplay has been reported to change since then.[4] Upgrades are earned for each weapon as the game progresses,[4][5] allowing the player to customise the marine as the game goes on. In a 2010 Attack of the Show interview, a Space Marine developer said that there would be next to no use of cover in this game because Space Marines are heavily armoured super-soldiers and thus do not need it.

Aside from an Ork Waaagh!, the player will be fighting the forces of Chaos, including the Daemons of Chaos.

According to an early interview, there will be a Co-Op mode and a versus mode.
