Kingsknowe railway station is a railway station serving Kingsknowe in the Scottish city of Edinburgh. It is located on the Shotts Line from Glasgow Central to Edinburgh Waverley via Shotts. The station has two platforms, connected by a level crossing, and CCTV. It is managed by First ScotRail.

The passenger traction calling at this station is the Class 156 "Super Sprinter" and also the Class 158. As this station is east of the junction of the West Coast Main Line to Carstairs, a variety of CrossCountry Class 220 "Voyager", Virgin Trains Class 221 "Super Voyager", Class 390 "Pendolino" and NXEC InterCity 225 can also be seen.

History

Kingsknowe station was opened by the Caledonian Railway on 15 February 1848. It was closed to passenger services by British Railways on 6 July 1964, and re-opened on 1 February 1971. .[2]

Services

It is currently served, Mondays to Saturdays, by one First ScotRail service each hour from Glasgow Central to Edinburgh Waverley. One train a day from Edinburgh terminates at Motherwell. There is a limited Sunday service at this station to Edinburgh and West Calder.
