The muses were the Goddesses of the Arts and Literature and were also the daughters of Zeus (the central god of the Greek pantheon) and Mnemosyne (the personification of memory). They spent nine nights together and that is how the muses were created.

The Muses:

  • Clio the muse of history bows down to zeus.
  • Euterpe the muse of flute and musical instruments bows down to apollo.
  • Thalia the muse of comedy bows down to no one.
  • Melpomene the muse of tragedy bows down to no one.
  • Terpsichore the muse of dance and bows down to aphrodite.
  • Erato the muse of the lyree poetry bows down to hades
  • Urania the muse of astronomy
  • Polyhymnia the muse of sacred songs and the art of mimic
  • Calliope the muse of epic poetry and eloquence, and the superior muse.
