Fox Sports World Canada is a Canadian English language Category B specialty channel owned by Shaw Media. FSWC's programming primarily features association football (soccer) with select programming on other world sports such as rugby.
Although its Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) licence calls for Fox Sports World Canada to carry soccer, cricket and rugby as their core sports, both cricket and rugby matches have all but disappeared from the station.
On October 27, 2010, Shaw Communications gained control of Fox Sports World as a result of its acquisition of Canwest, which was renamed Shaw Media.[1]
In February 2012, Rogers Cable announced it will be dropping Fox Sports World Canada from its lineup on April 1, 2012. Rogers' announcment comes as the latest major television service provider in Canada to drop the channel from their lineup; Bell TV dropped the channel on November 23, 2010.
On March 6, 2012, Shaw Media released a statement announcing that they will cease the broadcast of Fox Sports World Canada on April 30 of that year. Shaw claimed the channel "no longer makes strategic and economic sense for Shaw Media going forward." As Shaw Media produces Fox Soccer Report for Fox Soccer Channel, it's fate is yet to be determined, however, negotiations are underway to continue with its current broadcast and licence agreement.[2]
