Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 61.18.170.160 (talk) at 04:19, 11 March 2012 (Current requests for unprotection: Jamie Chung). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Temporary semi-protection:, ideally for a fairly lengthy period. Talk page soapboxing by banned editor Joe Circus, using proxies. This has been going on daily for weeks now. Jayjg (talk) 03:34, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Many vandalism edits and reverts starting a couple of months ago. -- Luke (Talk) 03:29, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Jayjg (talk) 03:55, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Short-term IP vandalism. -- Luke (Talk) 03:19, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Jayjg (talk) 03:54, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Someone a week ago removed the non-free image, File:Threes Company Title Page 1981.png, that has fair use rationale and nearly got the image deleted as an orphan. While vandalism has not occured within a week, I still feel this article deserves some protection. George Ho (talk) 02:31, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Jayjg (talk) 03:51, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Rewriting history yet again and all by anon vandals. Amending birthplace details generally passes monitors escaping the radar but I have found myself constantly editing this page since this edit in December 2011, three months ago. The latest activities reveal that I am cleaning the article every few hours: morning, noon, and evening. Anons have barely added a single constructive edit in this time whilst all we have is removal of established birthplace Yugoslavia replacing it with Kosovo or Kosova (local language, not used in English and KNOWN not to be the case by all editors - someone is merely having a joke). It is controversial enough anyhow and the manner in which we present Kosovo requires caution from all editors, me included. This means where used as a state, we include a special template; and where it is best avoided, we do just that and drop it entirely. Further to this, the equally provocative Prishtina is being added which has never been the English name. The article is Pristina and this is neutral in that its Serbian equivalent contains a diacritic. I ask that the page be protected for as long as possible - some did not learn from the first time it was restricted. Evlekis (Евлекис) (argue) 01:03, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection - Sudden barrage of vandalism from multiple IPs. - SudoGhost 00:55, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Jayjg (talk) 03:50, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – A lot of ips recently. Bobherry talk -- Hi!! 21:36, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Jayjg (talk) 03:48, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Per this discussion, a quick-hopping IP is edit warring over his unsourced, undiscussed changes. Radiopathy •talk• 18:41, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Jayjg (talk) 03:47, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection. How to explain. It's not so much vandalism as such. It's turning into an IP convention putting in their favorate celebrities or adding/removing content many times a day. I've been following this for over a year and now I can't even be bothered to check anymore - and I don't see other editors going in there. Would be nice to stabilize for a few months. SlightSmile 17:30, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 6 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Jayjg (talk) 03:44, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'll definitely call the removing of valid, sourced material vandalism. Thanks for semi-protecting it, although that won't stop fancruft editors like this from adding to it. He or she consistently added the list back as an IP, most likely because he or she had already been reverted as a registered user. 50.17.15.172 (talk) 03:58, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Anon user using different IP addresses adds unsourced information on this article since February. Anon also quickly reverts to his version after the article is restored to a cleaner version. -WayKurat (talk) 16:59, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Jayjg (talk) 03:38, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection Repeated addition of copyright Premier League fixtures on the page from unregistered/multiple IPs, despite repeated warnings and reverts. The article was semi-protected more than once previously in the last three months, but the edits have since continued once the article was unprotected again. Batram (talk) 11:51, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected — Three months. If this question is raised again (about the copyright of Premier League fixtures) I suggest asking for comment at one of the copyright noticeboards to be sure you are correct. EdJohnston (talk) 23:42, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry. Repeated deletion of sourced material by new editors. Persistent vandalism. I have had help from the Wikipedia:Cleanup Project (since February 25) and I should welcome your help in maintaining this article. Thank you, Gareth Griffith-Jones (talk) 11:06, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Activity of banned user (partial list of socks; also active Skanderbeg that was semi-protected too). — ZjarriRrethues — talk 09:00, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protected — Two weeks by User:Eustress. EdJohnston (talk) 23:18, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Unprotection: Notable brand of clothing with several Google news hits: [1] . Tinton5 (talk) 23:01, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not unprotected – Please create a sourced version of this article in a subpage or your userspace. When this is done, please make the request again, or ask any administrator to move the page for you. Armbrust, B.Ed. Let's talkabout my edits? 01:23, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unsemiprotection: This page has been semi-protected for two years by the person who created it. The level of vandalism at the time of semi-protection was hardly even enough to justify temporary semi-protection, let alone permanent semi-protection: barely one vandal every few days [2]. In the mean time the semi-protection has not even prevented the article from being vandalised with incorrect, uncited information by auto-confirmed sockpuppets of banned users. 61.18.170.160 (talk) 04:19, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Fulfilled/denied requests

Temporary semi-protection. Repeated deletion of sourced material by new editors 59.167.130.76, Todmanave and Rvoight. Rvoight claims as justification in Talk that (1) we cant use a newspaper as a source for what the police claim, (2) the claims are inaccurate (has declined a request to provide a source for this), (3) as no charges have been laid, the article can not say how the police believe the suspects (who are not named in article) are involved and (4) that inclusion of the claims would upset the victims' families. Wayne (talk) 05:47, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protected — One month. EdJohnston (talk) 18:29, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Long-term vandalism. Article is also in ITN. -- Luke (Talk) 01:01, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected — One month. Unsourced changes by IPs. EdJohnston (talk) 18:04, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
